Block Times

Recommended Posts

Can anyone provide to me what is normally considered the block time ranking? (list of blocks fastest to slowest as the pros when done correctly with the advanced executions like the top teams do. Really cool if any of the teams have typical times for each - flash to flash)

My guess

(5/9/13/17) fastest
(1/7/15/19/21) fast
(6/8/10) kinda fast
(4/11/16/22) kinda medium
(3/18/20) meat and potatoes
(2/12/14) meat and fried potatoes

This is not our list, just a guess from looking at the blocks. Our fastest ones right now are the ones we are consistent on, but if we executed the others as cleanly how would they compare.....

Also to settle a bet, we've had a lot of draws this year where the AAA looked much faster than the AA (things like 4-18 vs 4-18-5, the extra random in the draw for AAA, etc were very prevalent. Like 5 of the 6 rounds at a couple meets - it's a fun dig as the egos were fun to watch when pointed out).

This is so ridiculous that I had to sign up just to respond to it. Sure block 5 and 17 is fast. But you are left with a mirror image to contend with. AAA is a total mind fuck. If you think it is easier you should compete in it and see what happens to your average.

Look at this weekend's draw. Right out of the gate there is a mirror. A mirror in round 2 as well. Combine that with a slot switcher and you've got people flying in slots they have trained less in and the concentration level increases exponentially. Sure there are times when the AA is 4-18 and AAA is 4-18-F. But your opinion that 4-18-5 is easier than 4-18 is one I do not share.

Go ahead and give AAA a try and tell us how your average went up.

Disclaimer: I am not on an 18+ average team. But I am in the trenches doing AAA and Advanced class at Nationals because anything less provides an unfair picture of your skills in 4-way. Compare yourself with the best by doing the same draw and you will know where you really stand.

I suspect the new Block 12 is also slowest

The old Block 12 was pretty slow as well, I don't think quite as slow as the ew one, but maybe it's just the number 12!!:P

The brain -lock stuff in AAA must be entertaining.

But is that exactly what the guy is saying? Put it this way, we are a UK intermediate team (sits between A and AA, closer to A), and a couple of times i would definitely prefer the AA dive plan to the A dive plan. imho AA has sometimes been faster.

There is alway one in every crowd. You are hilarious and very defensive - it's not at all what I was talking about. Go get over yourself.

BTW - I've done AAA, it's great fun as these are some of my favorites blocks - the mental thing depends on the team and how they handle it of course. I've spent the last 5 years bringing new people into the sport and up the curve - for a while, a new mix of people every year (in the midwest - short season, no coaches, no wind tunnels). Now that we've had a couple decent years, we will try AAA next year, and I have a person who may have trouble with the mental aspect. I expect at least a 2 point loss at the beginning of the season, most of it due to more blocks density, but some just due to mind farts.

For AA vs AAA I'd give a lot to the mental bit, but in the end, you can't get over the higher block to random ratio no matter how well one handles keeping the dive clean and straight - block are {EDIT} slower than randoms and there are more blocks in AAA - The mental thing is true, but case dependent, more blocks is obvious and an easy enough discussion. Of course any step up will cost.

I'm only interested in block times though. So this is just a regression to make you feel better - kay?

Edit: See how fun it is? Most just don't mind either way and are glad to have more skydivers in whatever class so in the future they can have more people to play with. But some really do have unhealthy ego problems. Why should he care what someone else competes in?

unless there is an update that I have missed, mario's excellent info is out of date.

That's why I was asking, but Mario's was the only place I found something.

Does anyone have anything current? Or just a bunch of off topic whining?

block are faster than randoms and there are more blocks in AAA

Sure they are. I just hate when I see a slow all random round! :o

whoa - I said that completely backwards. I'll go fix that. Block are slower, not faster - thanks for catching that.
