FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

World Team Announces its Quest to Build World Record 400-way Freefall Skydiving Formation

(Whitefish, Montana USA) – The World Team Organizing Committee (WTOC) and the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) are collaborating to set a new FAI world skydiving record in Udon Thani, Thailand. The record attempts will take place 26 January through 12 February 2006. The RTAF will fly four C-130 Hercules aircraft in tight formation at 24,000 feet, providing the 400 skydivers and 13 freefall videographers 90 seconds to build and document the 400-person formation, and separate to safely open their parachutes.

This project is the third episode of the Royal Sky Celebration that has commemorated historic milestones of the Royal Family in the Kingdom of Thailand during the past seven years. In 2006, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the longest reigning monarch in the world, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of his coronation. For information on previous Royal Sky Celebrations, please see the World Team website at: www.theworldteam.com.

WTOC and its Team Captains from 14 nations are selecting hundreds of top skydivers from dozens of nations around the world to be part of the record breaking team – the largest international team ever assembled to set an official sporting record.

Skydivers who have the skills, experience, and desire to take part on this record formation should contact one or more of the World Team Leaders and read the related material on the World Team website. This site includes information about participating on World Team, the World Team Leaders’ names and responsibilities, and a link to an on-line application for participation. World Team’s application process runs through 23 September 2005.

Video and photographs of World Team’s formation will be submitted to the FAI (the world air sports federation) by FAI-rated Judges for official certification and homologation. World Team set the FAI world record for the largest freefall formation in 1999 with a 272-person formation in Ubon, Thailand, and set the current FAI world record with a 357-person formation in 2004 in Thakli, Thailand.

In a related project, World Team reacted quickly to news of the tsunami that devastated Thailand earlier this year by creating a relief fund for many Thai citizens who survived the disaster. Skydivers Supporting Thailand (SST) solicited and received in excess of US$ 70,000 from the international skydiving community. 100% of these funds were used to build 18 houses and a fish farm that is being run as a collective by 32 stricken families. For more information on the SST fund, and photographs documenting these efforts, please see: www.thaiskyfestival.com.

For additional information, please contact BJ or Bobbie Worth.

Good luck, Kate.

By the way, you can disable PM's if you want. Go to your profile and you'll find it.
