Desperado 0 #1 November 27, 2003 Why do the big way formations almost always contain whackers? Seems it would be easier and more stable if the open space were closed. ________________________________ I resent being called newbie.
jverley 1 #2 November 27, 2003 Whackers provide flexibility. If you use lines that are anchored on each end a small angle problem gets magnified the further from the base the line is. This may result in a line not completing because the space is too wide or too narrow. By using a whacker, there is only one anchor point and the angles are not so crucial.John Arizona Hiking Trails
darkwing 5 #3 November 27, 2003 The open space helps keep the formation fall rate up. Also, a hard hit on a whacker is less disruptive to the rest of the formation. I do miss the days of big, solid, pretty formations though. Nothing like an 81-way jewel for esthetic appeal. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
