GumbyGirl 0 #1 April 22, 2003 If your L.O. is constantly putting too many people on the dive, so that you know there's no chance of success, can you say something to them? I know a couple of L.O.'s whose dives have NO chance of success. Too many points. Too many people. I mention breaking it down to smaller groups, but they seem to feel that everyone should be on one big jump.
quade 4 #2 April 22, 2003 It may or may not be the fault of the LO. There are two possiblities here; The LO has a mandate from the DZ to put butts in seats. That is to say it's all about getting people on the plane and making the DZ some money. To me this is a very short view and eventually bites the DZ. The other possibility is the LO has an ego problem. In either case, you'll want to try to find out more before creating too much of a fuss at your DZ. Once you've identified the situation, then you can take steps to correct it.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Albatross 0 #3 April 22, 2003 I think that Quade has it covered. Many LO programs are undrstaffed and/or undersupported. The LO has the impossible problem of being all things to all people at the same time. Talk to the LO about it and see if it is the LO or the DZ or something else.Chris
harryskydives 0 #4 April 22, 2003 I mention breaking it down to smaller groups, but.. Go back and read Steve's " Being cut from a load! " in this forum. All that applies. If you want to control the quality of the Skydives you can hire your own LO, now pronounced coach, and invite the people you want to participate. If the DZ has hired some one to put together 20ways, and you want to do 10 way, what about the other 10 people and the cost ratio. That line between "it's all good", and "had the most fun ever" gets blurred as your skills increase. PS I really wanted to show some photos taken by Corey Parker this past weekend. PPS Had the most fun ever! Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
billvon 3,090 #5 April 22, 2003 Definitely talk to him/her. Do it out of earshot of other people on the load so he doesn't have to give you a 'politically correct' answer. It's been my experience that some organizees want to go big at any cost; some want to stay small and turn a lot of points, some want the biggest successful dive possible. Often the organizer doesn't know what kind of mix of those people he has unless you speak up.
ccowden 0 #6 April 25, 2003 Start organizing your own jumps. Its your jump ticket and you can start having your own group to organize jumps with.

dkpbxman 0 #12 April 27, 2003 If the L.O.'s dives constantly turn into zoo's, not only is it a waste of your money, it's also a safety issue. At the appropriate time, politely inform the L.O. that you have dirt dived your own jump (with a smaller group of people) in order to work on something specific.
