Used Cypress

I found a used Cypress DOM 01/94, 8 Year and new Battry just done 12/02. They seller claims that this unit was never installed.

I tried using the Cypress Value estimated tool but I don't know the values to enter into all the feilds. Roughly I came up with $420. The Seller wants $450.

Good or wait for a better deal?

My suggestion is look for a new one. It's surprising haw fast the 4 years will go. add another 400 bucks to the price he gave you and you'll get 3 times the use out of it.

450 in my opinion is pretty steep for a unit with only 4 years of service remaining. However, if you are strapped for cash, then at least it will get you in the air with a cypress that has recently been serviced by the factory.

Stupid question of the day... Well a few of them...

When you buy a new cypress, it comes good to go for 2 years right? 2 Years you pay for new batteries. 4 years from DOM you send it back. When you send it back does it come with new batteries, or do you have to buy new batteries too?

What are the ball park price ranges for batteries and service?

I think the price may be a tad high but not bad for use Cypress. However, you may want to consider that you are paying roughly half price of a new Cypress ( I paid $925 delivered four months ago) and it only has a quarter of the 12 years left before it can not be used. I find the used prices of Cypress’s to be rather high over all.

You have to buy the batteries at the 4 Yr. also.

4 Year = $160 USD

Batteries = $75USD

Cutters = $105 single $210 2 pin

I got 392.81 value using $900 new, $75 batteries (what I charge), and $180 for service ($160 plus shipping two ways). The lowest price I had found was $849 but I think there up a little with the Euro. In theory offer the guy $390 and you not losing money over buying a new one. You might think to pay a little premium for not having to spend the whole amount now, but the seller's also off loading a future paper weight. If he's not using it, he's burning value as it sets.

When you buy a new cypres the batteries and service interval are measured from the Date Of Manufacture (DOM). So if you buy a new cypres made a year ago the batteries are good for one year and it needs service in 3. (Recently happened to someone on here.) So, if you get a fresh cypres, in 2 years it will need $75 batteries. Two years OR 500 JUMPS from the last battery install it will need new batteries. Don't forget the 500 jump rule! That's all I charge my customers, nothing for installation. At four years, and eight years it will have to go to Ohio. The service is $160 plus return shipping. With shipping there it will be a total bill of $180 to $190. If the batteries have less than 3 months left on them, SSK will replace them at $75.

Note that some lofts mark up the cost of batteries or charge for battery installation, cypres installation and removal. I'm not making a statement about that, but you should ask your rigger what he charges. I chose not to charge addtitional but I also don't make my living rigging.

Essentially, you're paying the same per year buying the used CYPRES as you would a new one. So, it makes perfect sense to buy the used one if you'd rather not spend the extra money for new. With a fresh 8 year and batteries, the unit is as good as new from a functionality standpoint. By the way, I also have a used one, made 10/94 that is getting the update and batteries now. $450 includes USA shipping.
