AndyMan 7 #1 January 6, 2003 My cypres is due for its 4 year. I am not a rigger. Is it legal for me to remove it myself? Is it easy for me to remove it myself? _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
ramon 0 #2 January 6, 2003 sure. You just can't close your reserve container when you're done.. "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

Yes it is legal and easy to remove, but like Ramon said, you can't re-close the reserve. Make sure to check your Cypres User's Guide, or go to http://www.pia.com/SSK/cypres/ for a down-loadable manual and the service form. There are a fw notes about removing and shipping the Cypres in the manual. Also-for the 4yr check, new batteries, shipping, and insurance, it totals out to $245.75. Shipping charges may vary, of course. Hook
bwilling 0 #6 January 6, 2003 I pulled mine out of my Dolphin myself, after asking the same question in this forum... it was pretty easy to remove... main thing that someone recommended to me, was to make sure to not pull anything out by any of the cables... so I didn't. I was able to gently push the cutter and display unit back thru their protective channel (that covers the cables in the container)... no problem. Craig 0 #7 January 6, 2003 I actually did this last night since my reserve is out of date and I wanted to clean up some of the white areas on my rig with soap and water before jump season gets back into swing. Additionally my CYPRES needs batteries. It was pretty easy. You just gotta be careful and like others said don't pull the units out with the cables. You might need to help getting the control unit and cutter out of the channels by using the cables but most of the force used should be pushing the units out. councilman24 37 #8 January 6, 2003 Also make sure you take care of your reserve while it's unpacked. Translation - Don't let the cat play in it. I prefer to take cypres' out for my customers. That way I can see the condition of the rig when it's opened and I know how things are handled. I don't charge my regular customers anything. In general I don't add any costs to my customers because they have a cypres, other than my real out of pocket costs for batteries. I want to encourage there use. BTW, you can't put it back in. The FAA tried to insist it took a MASTER rigger to install in a cypres ready rig, but USPA and PIA got them to back off to a Senior rigger. I'm old for my age.
