Overloaded ZP 7-cell's mains

Recommended Posts

I will switch to an used super-seven 150 ft (this is a 7-cell ZP main, also available as reserve from the same manufacturer) but this chute do have a max. loading from 180 lbs.

My exit weight is ~220 lbs. Do any of you guys have experience with chutes like this and such loadings?

How do 7-cell ZP flare when overloaded, still enough or totally weak?
How about the openings? .....should be quicker, i think.

Thank you

I

It depends, the power of the flare s dependant on the design not just the fact that it is a seven cell. As an example I'm having a hell of a time on a 7 cell pd lightning at a loading of 1.7. If it was spectre or a storm or even a triathalon it might not be so hard or should I say a little more forgiving.

Trim and line age and wear play a role also. man, many factors to consider. The age of the design is a biggy.

Out of curiousity, why would you jump a lightning loaded at 1.7. Sounds awful high for most CRW?

It is high for most CRW, including big way but its not for competition. Its one reason the Storm was designed. I believe the teams that have them are able to load them as high as 2:1 and do.

The world champions are on triathalon 99s or were. This loading up for competition has led a california team to re-develop the FX into a dacron lined CRW canopy that can be loaded well beyond 2:1

Chutes like this .. Triathlons, from 150 down to 120. Exit weight much the same as yours.

Current one (120) likes a little extra speed on the landing, but doesn't any canopy .. from unaccelerated straight-in there is enough flare.

I assume you've demoed it? I wouldn't expect major problems you wouldn't have on any other canopy.
Johan.
I am. I think.
