freeflye73 0 #1 October 7, 2007 I had the chance to demo a velocity 103, this weekend. WL 2:2. The question is, since it's DOM was 99:03 and had the original vectran lineset, jumps unknown if i have to guess about 600.. How representative for a new velocity is it. Main concerne is the openings, the subterminal was ok, fast but not really hard. The terminal was very brisk, about 1,5 sek from releasing the pilotchute until the canopy was open. I don't think my packing caused this, because i have packet velocity for my friends and they all opened ok. So are there any changes on a velocity manufactured today that affect the openings, flying characteristics etc. //Jonas
dharma1976 0 #2 October 7, 2007 take extra special care when quartering your slider and when you are getting air out of your canopy I tend to turn rings so they are flat while packing on everything anyway and then creating a hood out of the slider on the tailside and nose side also I tend to stick the slider outside of the stabilizers on the side quartering pieces and I have deployed and had people think I was having a malfunction it was so soft... Once again if your slider moves once you get it on the ground you can have issues Davehttp://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. freeflye73 0 #3 October 7, 2007 I was really carefull when packing, and i quartered the slider, pulling just a little out in front of the nose, not pushing the nose inside the packjob just like PD recomends. I packed my friends 96 the same way and it has opened soft, so it might be some other issues this canopy.
Bolas 5 #4 October 7, 2007 I'd check the lineset. Out of trim can make any good canopy bad. I could be totally wrong but I think the majority of the changes on the Velo have been lineset changes.Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. AggieDave 6 #5 October 7, 2007 As I understand it I think there was a change in sliders during that time...I have a Velo made in 99 but I've never jumped it without a RDS so I couldn't tell you. For the OP send the canopy back to PD, they'll check the lineset and put some jumps on it to test it out. Maybe its the lineset, maybe its the canopy, maybe the slider...eitherway PD can check it all out.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." freeflye73 0 #6 October 8, 2007 Thanks for the info. It was a demo canopy so i'm sending it back to the dealer so he could check it out, and i'm going to talk to him and see if he have had anyone else complaine about the canopy. I think i,m going to stay with my Samurai another season and hopefully i will be in florida for 2 weeks in march, and maybe i can demo another velocity when i'm there. NeverTooLow 0 #7 October 20, 2007 Hi Guys another question or actually not: Since the Velo is now nearly 10 years old with only little changes and Daedalus has brought the hot JVX to the course, anyone knows if PD is planing to bring a new swooping machine? They are currently showing a new gl wing. Anyone with a little preview from PD? Thanx Rome
lilchief 1 #8 October 20, 2007 I just want to add my thoughts here: PD has in m mind ben the best at canopy deigns for some time now, and the Velo has been regarded to be the fastest swooping canopy for over 10 years(correct me if I'm wrong). What have PD been doing the last 10 year you think? If the JVX or some other canopy challenges the velo significantly, the I can't wait for what kind of response PD launches. I'm absolutely certain that they have one or more aces up their sleeves and damn their going to be radical I hope "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
freeflye73 0 #9 October 20, 2007 There was a post here on the forum about that a while ago, where there was rumors of a new PD "X braced". Think it was entitled Velocity future.... Anyone know if Brian G is ever going to release the sensie.
lilchief 1 #10 October 20, 2007 According to brian himself, the Sensei will never be released. The Sensei is a ongoing test project, that's why he told me."Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
freeflye73 0 #11 October 20, 2007 Last year i got the info that he might be offering the Sensie in the relative near future, and i would be a signature series or limited production canopy. Guess he has made up his mind about that then
AggieDave 6 #12 October 20, 2007 The full PD sponsered swoopers (fastrax, factory team...) all had the XB in Colorado. Its a HOT canopy. I don't know the specific differences of the canopy and the guys I talked to didn't really know all the specific differences either. It *looked* thinner, but beyond that I couldn't tell you the differences except that its FAST and swoops very far. Rumor is that it'll come out this year, possibly this spring. Hopefully that's not "big Katana soon." --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
