morris 0 #1 September 24, 2007 Hi, I got here something for CompetitionSwoopers to think about, I´m interested in your opinions... How do you like the following idea? As in CRW, the worst score of a competitor doesn´t count. (Maximumscore would be 800 in a 9 round competition, the rule could apply for intermediate only or in general.) Why this? Several reasons: 1.Safety At the moment you´r out of the game (toppositions) if your missing the gate a single time. Therefore you have to make the gate at almost any cost. With this rule you´d be flying way more relaxed (as long as you havn´t missed once). (Disadvantage to me: Part of the excitement would be taken away what makes a CP-Competition second to nothing.) 2.Tension (might be the wrong english word for what I´d like to say) More competitors would stay in the race for the title till very last round. (on the other hand it´s not very likely that a competitor - who´s missing a gate - scores high in all the other rounds... but possible) 3.Records If the last round of a competition would be speed or distance and you´ve made the gate 8 times you could give 120% in round 9... (take the risk of setting-up to tight for example) Thoughts on this?
breadhead 0 #2 September 24, 2007 Very interesting idea! Caveat: it would be difficult to do this per event (speed/distance/accuracy), as each event only has 3 rounds. Dropping the worst score in a 3-round-event would be strange. However, for the overall results, over all 9 rounds, I find the idea very appealing. It would be nice to run a few what-if scenario's on previous competition results to see how it would affect the final results. Edited to add: I tried it on competition results I happen to have in Excel. I turns out the impact of the proposed rule change is minimal. Also, it punishes those competitors that score consistently (as could be expected).
AggieDave 6 #3 September 24, 2007 That's a really interesting idea. On the intermediate level I could definately see the advantage. On the pro level or even on the national level for intermediates I don't think that it should really be put in place. That is basically one of the things that makes a top swooper so very impressive. They can show up to the comp where ever that may be and be consistent with the gates and scoring (usually pretty well) time and time again. Then again those meets are done over water where as some intermediate level comps are ground comps due to local limitations.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
