rickfri59 0 #1 December 26, 2002 Does anyone know how dated a Mirage M2 is? I've on;y seen Mirage containers with a "G" designation (G3, G4). Would this be a good FF rig?
PhreeZone 20 #2 December 26, 2002 The G stands for Generation. G3 is a 3rd generation Mirage, G4 is the 4th and newest. The M stands for the sizing. Most people don't know there were Mirages before the G3 since they were far from being popular rigs, plus a lot of jumpers would'nt remember them due to their age(I only know of them through PPM's). The G3 is generally the container people think of when the word Mirage is used. So unless it was an original Mirage or the follow up version, which should be noted since these would basically be antiques, its a freefly friendly rig.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

fergs 0 #4 December 26, 2002 My original Mirage, 1985 vintage, had press-studs on the riser covers. It was a great rig - and I only retired it 4 years ago. New gear .... G3 of course.
rmcvey 0 #5 December 26, 2002 Hi, I currentlly own a M0 Mirage. It was built in 97 and was a good first rig for me. It has the same style pin protection of a G3. There are some things you will need to do to make it FF Friendly. I had the spandex BOC moved about an inch to the right hand side so that there was no showing bridle. ???It will probably have velcro riser covers. In my opinion this is a pain in the sphincter. To keep it safe you have to maintain the velcro often, and by maintain, really i mean change the velcro often. I wouldnt attempt headdown with velcro riser covers. Just my opinion but i dont think its safe enough for me. Others do. I do a lot of head up stuff with it no problem and have never had a riser cover open. I have had the reserve tuck tab (the bit that goes into the spandex) come open a few times but this only started after a bulky reserve pack job. But the actual reserve flap has never fully come open. On the whole its a good rig but think i personally wouldnt recommend it for someone interested in anything other than RW. Others will tell you different. I see you currentlly jump a vector. My advice would be keep your vector while you save up for a rig designed for freefly (Mirage G3, Voodoo, Wings, Vector 3 etc.) That is what i did and have now ordered a new rig.Safe ones
