Cantoral 1 #1 July 15, 2007 Hi, I’m interested to learn to swoop, but unfortunately here (Guatemala) is nobody with experience in high speed landings to ask for some advice, besides we make 5 to 6 jumps in a month, so, there is no much opportunity to practice. I have aprox 40 jumps practicing front riser 180 degrees turns at 350 feet (sea level)…. but I know there is more than just make a hook turn and ¨hope¨ to everything comes out well. At the time I have a few demo jumps (60 aprox) night jumps and night demo jumps, jumps landing at different altitude, from sea level to 8,000 feet above the sea, I don’t know if this info matter, but there it is anyway. I’m saving to travel to the US and take the canopy control course, my WL is 1.4 on a triathlon 135. Thanks for looking this post and any suggestions and advice are welcome. Miguel PS Sorry for mi English.

hukturn 0 #3 July 16, 2007 Until you get a fair bit of canopy experience, I would discourage it. I think that the most aggrivating factor is the limited number of jumps you are making. You are of realatively low experience level with minimal frequency of jumping. There is plenty of time (hopefully). So, look for a canopy pilotiong course before really pushing too hard to swoop. dharma1976 0 #6 July 16, 2007 heh I would love to head out there again I just must avoid atitlan... something about angels and demons... So are you jumping by monterrico??? I would agree about waiting until you have some time and money to put yourself around swoopers and coaches... Coaching and mentoring has done the most for me... AggieDave 6 #7 July 16, 2007 The most important thing you can learn right now in your skydiving career is how to fly a landing pattern and accuracy. The landing pattern will make your accuracy work. Without either you will never ever be a safe or accomplished swooper.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Pendragon 1 #9 July 17, 2007 ... and just to add to that - think about being at a specific point above the ground at a specific time, i.e. something like "being over the path but level with the windsock at 1,200 ft; by the fence at 800ft" etc etc. Practise accurately getting to, what will become, your initiation point.-- BASE #1182 Muff #3573 PFI #52; UK WSI #
