Southwest CPC

I highly recommend any aspiring pilots in the area compete in this. It's a great learning environment and going to the finals finding yourself surrounded from the best amateur pilots in the US is a great place to learn even more.

Are you kidding me?!!!
The Southwest district is Norcal, Socal, NV & AZ.
While Illinois and Indiana are both districts by themselves.
This is crap!!
Norcal has enough interest to be a district by itself and so does Socal.
Norcal had 4 people at the championships this year. How many were there representing Illinois?
I think this move will deter a lot of people from competing. Who is going to compete if they have to buy a plane ticket to get to the events?
Jim, I think you are making a big mistake, and I am not just saying that because it makes things inconvenient for me. I will still go to the comps even if they are far away but I will be one of the few. If you want to keep your numbers up this is a bad choice.

I think it has to do with having peeps to run the region.

if your going to bitch about it, stand up and run a region, I am sure there wouldn't be any problem with that.

I would be more then happy to run our district. In fact I offered, but the guy who ran it last year was actually eager to run it again this season. We actually have a great group of people who are excited about competing.
Jim mentioned doing this while we were in CO. The people from Norcal said they did not like the idea and the people from Socal also did not like the idea. I don't know about NV and AZ but there is no need to combine the two CA district. All this will do is stop people from competing.

I dont know if there is goign to be a region up here this year...the guy who ran it last year seemed non plussed about the response in our area

You got THAT right, Skimmy! From someone who ran a region with next to NO participation, even when there were tons of "cool beer line swoopers" around, I can tell you it's not fun or easy. The time I spent setting up courses, PAYING for those course materials (over $3,500 bucks), and getting winded out four times, I could have been travelling and maintaining my currency on the PST pro tour. It sucked and I was very disheartened. You want a separate CPC region? Step up to the plate and make it happen. Believe me, Jim Slaton will take all the money you will give him (dues, etc).

What are your thoughts on consolidating the New England and NY regions? They're all within a few hrs of each other and *may* provide a better competitor base, albeit with a teeny bit more driving for those involved, but nothing excessive.
