CanuckInUSA 0 #2 November 2, 2006 Cool ... and good progression. May I anti up some observations? 1) At least on your first few attempts, you needed to slow your turn rate down a bit. It's too fast and you're coming out high because of this (you know quick turns burn up less altitude). On the attempt when you finally touched down, your turn rate was slower than your first few attempts and because of this you weren't high and you had a good shot at the pond. 2) An alternative if you don't want to slow your turn rate down is to turn lower. But I didn't actually tell you that now did I as I sure as hell don't want to confuse people who don't know why I'm telling you that you can still turn lower. It's hard to tell from video, but your altitudes looked good. 3) Set up a little farther back on the pond. Can you see how far you're shooting past the pond? From a safety point of view it's good to be over water as you're leveling out, but you're generating plenty of speed and can easily have more pond to play with if you leveled out farther back. But how far back will also depend on you much you slow your turn down. Remember people get themselves into trouble when they're too close to the entry gates and end up diving down on the course and find themselves in the corner because of this. Setup up a little farther back on the pond if you want to play on it longer. 4) Make sure you properly level out over the pond before you attempt to touch down on it. On the jump where you do touch down, you can see you reach for the water almost immediately. Watch how the PST freestyle guys approach the water before they touch down. I've learned the hard way that we need to level out and slow down a little before we attempt to touch the water. Otherwise we're just going to bounce off of the water 10-15 feet into the air and then having to really fly our canopies close to it's stall speed to avoid hurting ourselves. Overall I'd say you're looking pretty good. You're generating some good speed and yes you could see the progress you made between each jump. Slow the turn down a small bit, setup farther back and make sure you're properly leveled out before you try and touch water. Were these formal coach jumps or just out having some fun and you invited Bundy and Clint along for the ride? djd 0 #3 November 2, 2006 Mega i love reply's like this, I had coaching of off JC and Clint last week but on the grass landing strip. my choice to go and play with the pond was my idea and bundy was offering me some good sound advice. actually he pretty much said all the points you brought out. my set up was a bit out on most of my turns, mostly being a bit short and being a little low, not low just a little, with the addrenalin running and oh my god im a little low just made me turn quicker than i would normally ...i think anyway. the vid of clint was shot by larry at a previous date but was on the tape he used to video me and i couldnt help downloading it. made for a good still i believe. Thanks for the constructive critisism i thought id remember what bundy had told me but woke up and had forgot most of it...lol.. now i can read this....cheers.. danny.. CanuckInUSA 0 #6 November 3, 2006 Quotemy set up was a bit out on most of my turns, mostly being a bit short and being a little low, not low just a little, with the addrenalin running and oh my god im a little low just made me turn quicker than i would normally ...i think anyway. Maybe you were a tad low coming off of your risers on the 2nd jump. But that's really nit picking and nothing to get in a huff about. When did you start doing 450s? and could the 450s be adding to the adrenaline rush making your turn rates faster? I definitely should not be offering advice on doing 450s since I really haven't done very many of them myself and I'm not going to be starting them any time soon unless I'm ultra current. But I have experienced the added adrenaline rush of the 450 over the traditional 270. I'm 2/3 the way through my 450 turn thinking I'm getting low. But in reality it's just the added speed that I'm not used to which is spooking me. Anyway just another observation. But you seem to have a decent handle on your swooping. Safe swoops ... djd 0 #7 November 3, 2006 i was doing 450's on my katana about 250 jumps ago was def better than 270's felt i got a lot more power from my canopy, i got the velo90 and went all the way back to a couple of 90's 180's and all the canopy handling skills i had learnt from scratch then stuck with 270's for about 100 jumps but i just couldnt get my accuracy and my set up anywhere near good so i pushed myself onto 450's the wrong way in hindsite, started of with fast wippy turns and am now just pretty much doing a 450 harne turns from a lot higher which i love (thx JC). i realise now my accuracy and set up was so bad on the 270's because i just wasnt used to how quick everything was happening and didnt understand the canopy as much as i should have, I always ask a lot of questions to everyone some comments you can just throw away but some are quality tips. i know i still have a long way to go in regards to everything especially experiance which will save you time and time again. but hey thats life. thanks for yr comments. soft landings. I just watched the video again and I don't think you were low on any of your jumps. I don't know what I was originally thinking. That song is cool ... Peej 0 #9 November 3, 2006 http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=5117 Clicky... Good stuff! We're busy building our pond so hopefully in a month or two i'll have some video of me touching down on the water. Of course i won't be doing turns anywhere NEAR a 450 Take care Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
