aykay 0 #3 October 27, 2006 Yeah seen that. So technically you could get a crossbrace in whatever size you like. I know that Icarus will make a canopy up to whatever size you want really.... Hold that. Just read their site. "As with all our canopies, the VX is available in any size you choose." etc etc. hehe thanks tho.
piisfish 140 #4 October 27, 2006 it also says.. QuoteIt is primarily a competition wing designed to swoop massive distances and fly at ballistic speeds for those turf surf purists whose prime objective is to wean the last available performance from their canopy... We recommend wing-loadings from 1.8 PSF to 2.4 PSFso unless your profile is not actualised, please stay away from such canopy for some seasons of intensive flying.scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

meatbomb 0 #7 October 29, 2006 Well I jump a VX-114, and my VX-123 (for distance) should be arriving in 6 weeks or so! I don't know of anyone who regularly jumps bigger...--- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies
AggieDave 6 #8 October 30, 2006 The largest production X-braced is a 120sq ft (119 for Icarus styled products). Icarus and Percision will make any size you ask for; however, its scaled on the computer to whatever size you want. Having watched other companies battle with making a canopy fly like its smaller brothers and have to redesign and redesign and redesign, I don't fully believe in a scaled canopy in that manner. Although it might fly similar, I don't believe it will fly the same.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." cobaltdan 0 #10 November 1, 2006 We produce the 36 cell x-brace ONYX in standard sizes up to 125. As far as the largest X-brace: we have produced x-braced paragliders up to 1000 square feet (largest elliptical paragliders ever built).Daniel Preston <><> atairaerodynamics.com (sport) atairaerospace.com (military)
AggieDave 6 #11 November 1, 2006 QuoteIs there any other information out there on this? Just conversations I've had with people in the industry and looking at companies like PD. They have the same capabilities to make any size of canopy asked for. That's how they initially come up with the different sizes of a canopy. However, they then test jump the snot out of each size and make tweaks in line trim and other things to make all the canopies fly like the original design size. Same characteristics at a given wingloading. Look at the Katana and the Velocity for instance. The large Katanas came out something like 2 years after they were first announced. They kept tweaking them again and again to make them fly right, open right, etc. PD designed and began developing a Velocity 135 as well. They dropped the project for two reasons. 1) they were having a hard time getting the canopy right and 2) it wasn't worth their time for the amount of Velo 135s they would sell. QuoteI thought that in general it was better to have a larger wing if you can keep your WL. That's a loaded question. It all depends on what you want to accomplish and what kind of canopy flight you enjoy.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
