vandev 0 #1 December 17, 2002 Anyone have any experiance with alpha's. I'm looking at safire 113-119 or crossfire 109 and this 117 alpha. My wing loading will be around 1.6. I will be 190 out the door. Last canopy was saber 97 and i was 210 out the door. I skysurf and freefly. Dont hook and open high IE. "Skysurf". need consistant openings and not line twists at this wing loading. Any past experiance with these canopies. I did'nt like the stilleto at all. I have about 500 jumps and all freefly and skysurf since jump 40. Had a saber 170 right out of aff school. Hope this information helps. Thanks, chris Thanks guys, Chris In the end...the universe has a way of working itself out.... "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle"
skydivinmartin 0 #2 December 17, 2002 The Alpha is a 9 cell elliptical, just like the Stiletto. Very similar flight characteristics with line twists. If you didn't care for the Stiletto, maybe stick with a Sabre 2 or Safire for skysurfing? I don't skysurf myself, but the few I've seen tend to use a more conservative canopy. PhreeZone 20 #3 December 17, 2002 Is it an Atair or Icarus Alpha? If its an Atair its the same canopy as a Viper/Impluse/Space or Cobalt (this has a few updates but same design). Read reviews on those canopies to geta feel for the canopy. If its an Icarus I've never seen or jumped one.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
SkymonkeyONE 4 #4 December 17, 2002 If you are talking about an Atair Alpha (also known as Impulse and Space), then I will totally disagree with the poster who said they fly like a Stiletto. They are far less twitchy, open straighter, can be loaded heavier, and have a much longer control range. Chuck <><>
cobaltdan 0 #5 December 17, 2002 ditto what chuck said. alpha's were the predecessor to the cobalt. and were the canopy of choice of many pro-swoopers before x-braced canopies, i.e. jim slaton, joey jones, cavin warren, etc... all ex alpha competitors... sincerely, dan<><> atair aerodynamics www.extremefly.comDaniel Preston <><> atairaerodynamics.com (sport) atairaerospace.com (military)
