mojoTrent 0 #1 August 25, 2006 I am wondering what peoples thoughts are on custom canopy sizes for crossbrace canopy's.There seem to be several out there which are in between the manufacturers regular sizes.Do they scale the same? Are the opening and flying characteristics the same?Anyone have issues after ordering a custom size? SkymonkeyONE 4 #2 August 25, 2006 I know of at least one person, Aaron Comp, who ordered a Xaos 27 canopy exactly 1/2 foot larger than a pretty standard size, just for shits and grins. The canopy flew great; he might still have it. Chuck

precision 0 #6 August 27, 2006 QuoteDo they scale the same? Are the opening and flying characteristics the same? Precision was the first parachute company to offer specific canopy models in multiple scaled sizes tuned to wing loading (that was 25 years ago). Before that, most all canopies were available in one specific size. If you wanted a larger canopy, you could buy a different design. Since that time, most other parachute companies have followed that lead with their own brands. The closest thing to scaled sizes in canopies of the early days were the PC and the Jumbo PC, or the Para-Plane and the Baby Plane. Precision scales all Xaos caniopies to a specific size and wing-loading. Even 2 or 3 square feet in size variation will return a measurable difference in extractable performance in the Xaos design. Most (as in high 90% range) of our customers order custom sizing, and yes, Aaron Comp did add 1/2 square feet to his canopy and it was manufactured exactly as he ordered it. Every canopy is made-to-order. We offer the Xaos canopy in Para-Gear catalog in several specific square foot increments to give the buyer a big picture comparison of what they can expect for a given point in the performance spectrum. Would you order a specific brand shoes if they were only avalable in S, M, L, XL sizes? (Well, I guess some people would, if they had the right kind of swoosh on the side. After all, it's all about other people's perception, right?) George Galloway
