AggieDave 6 #1 April 10, 2006 What is up with the 25lbs rule? I can understand what the rule is trying to prevent, but what about the big guys? I weighed my rig in this morning and it came in a close 24.3lbs. If I had an airlocked canopy instead of my XF2 it may have been over the limit and I wouldn't have been able to compete. Isn't 25lbs a bit unrealistic as a set number? What about having just a general "added weight" rule for rigs? My setup that just slid under the weight rule is a Wings container (3 1/2 years old, doesn't have as much padding and lateral padding and such), PDr 176, XF2 149 and Cypres. Not a non-typical average skydiving setup. What are some thoughts from other CPC competitors?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." breadhead 0 #2 April 10, 2006 Mine is a lot lighter than 25lbs. Does that mean I can stuff it with some extra weight?
marks 0 #3 April 10, 2006 I believe that rule is there to keep people from stuffing lead in the rig. I would guess that if you were over the rig weight and your rig just was like that because of legitimate reasons it would be fine.

eUrNiCc 0 #5 April 10, 2006 Hmm... so according to this rule, I can add 9lbs of lead to my 16lb rig in addition to the 35lbs of lead that I'm allowed to wear? Is that correct?Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

I think that this should be true, we should be able to put our rigs at the weight limit using led, just as others swoopers rigs are already there. come on you still have a 20 lb advantage in total weight overall if you are a large person, why shouldn't we be able to have the same weight in our rigs? There's a total weight limit and the rig weight factors into how much weight you're allowed to wear. The rig weight limit was to keep people from sneaking an extra 10lbs of lead.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." raymod2 1 #9 April 10, 2006 The spirit of the rule seems clear. They don't want people adding weight to their rigs to circumvent the new weight rules. To make it easier to enforce this rule they put a limit on how much your rig can weigh. If you add weight to your rig to bring it up to 25lbs then you'll probably get away with it but it's still cheating. Anyways, that's my take on it. I could be wrong. shadowswoop97 0 #10 April 10, 2006 I can see your point of view, maybe this discussion should be posted to canopy piloting.com, only to have more direct answers from the creators of the rules. I am not sure if Jim checks into this forum often. If Chris Hayes could comment that would be great also
AggieDave 6 #11 April 10, 2006 I don't spend much time over there, rarely go, so I guess I'll go post the same over there.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
CanopyPiloting 0 #12 April 10, 2006 You guys should check out www.canopypiloting.com time to time for more information on swooping... For safety, weighing up your rig with extra weight is not allowed. Pilots can jump a larger or heavier rig but cannot attach/add weights to their parachute system.
