What exactly is there to learn? thats somone trying to be nice by not telling you not to swoop. they are saying go fly a kite. j/k, Im not sure, but if it is an inflatable wing kite, Im guessing you could learn something. andyflylife 0 #3 February 24, 2006 I dont know whether id say i learn anything about canopy piloting from flying my power kite, but my canopy flying style definitely crosses over to the way i fly the kite!.. ..that is, lots of slow high, braked flight then big ass dives and swoops I love swooping my kite over all sorts of things whether its trees friends or dog walkers CREW is also a good laugh with kites and not so damn scary as the real thing My kite is really a toy version of my real canopy where it doesn't matter if i screw up!! YISkyDive 0 #4 February 24, 2006 what do you fly? I could see how kiteboarding has helped me and flying a parachute- not directly- but the concept of "flying your controls." If you let a kite pull you around- you are a danger and can easily get hurt- but when you kiteboard, especcially in demanding winds, you learn a lot about flying blind. I have been in situations where I am being pulled backwards by the kite- but I am still flying the kite... very hard too do. Also, in kiteboarding- I ve been in a few emergency situations where I had to make a split second decision of what to do. I have found that same quick decision making to help in flying my parachute. None of it really helps swooping- but it does help your flying, and most importantly quick decision making.
DJL 235 #5 February 25, 2006 QuoteCREW is also a good laugh with kites and not so damn scary as the real thing Holy shit, I just had a delightfully stupid idea. I'm bringing my kite up for some CRW this weekend. I'll tell you guys all about it in the Incidents forum next week."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
