swoop pond chowing

Recommended Posts

My Chow

shall we talk about it?

I think I was too focused on getting my foot in the water, and not focusing on where i was going to finish my swoop.

lack of recognition that you were low. let up on your fronts a tad sooner and make sure you have a good roll out picture. target fixation could have played a role in that as well, but you can only tell that.

basic rule for water swooping is treat the water as ground, so make sure you're completely plained out before you put your foot down.

hope this helps.

A little on the low side coming out, and then late on the toggles - your flare stroke starts about 4 feet off the ground.

Good job on the recovery - well, right until you wiped out a second time :P

Props for being modest enough to post it.

ian drennan could probably word it better and hopefully he'll step in if i butcher his term, but basically your 'roll out' picture is what you're seeing as you 'roll out' of your turn and come on heading toward your target when you're finishing your turn(i.e. gates, pond, ect). it's the picture you gain from doing your turn a thousand times (both physically and mentally)and being able to 'see' if you're good to go or a little low; and depending on what picture you're seeing at that split second then you react accordingly.

you learn your 'roll out' picture in your early stages of swooping when you're doing double fronts and 90's (90% of the people probably skip through the basics too fast and never really learn their roll out picture until they've had a few accidents). then when you advance later on in your career to bigger turns that same 'roll out' picture you've engrained in your head when you were doing 90's is still there and you can recognize earlier and earlier in your set up if you're low or not and what 'tools' you'll need to utilize.

ian, step in if I completely translated that wrong but hopefully that kind of made sense.

if this video is something that you're consistantly doing i would take a step back and re-evaluate what you're doing and what you might need to work on. but that's just my .02

you did a good job of keeping your head after that first little skip, now just look back and honestly assess what you might change (NOT what you did wrong) for the next time.

Being honest, this is my first chow, but also this probably my 5th / 6th serious attemp at the pond, everything before that has been over grass... without incident...

I think that I was over keen to get my foot in the water as soon as possible. As soon as I came out of my turn, I looked at the pond and fly to it, and well into it...
