Triathlon or Spectre ??

Have you ever jumped a Navigator? Most are trimmed in such a way that it would actually be very dificult to "hook" one. Navigators are trimmed to turn very flat, for exactly the reason you're alluding to.

To "hook" a Navigator, you would likely need to hook your foot through the toggle.

Actually, I've jumped a Navigator 200, a 240 and a 300 on numerous occasions. Yes, you *can* hook it.

In another post we got people talking a guy out of going to a Diablo at 70 jumps.

Dang. I missed that. He's nuts.

The Diablo and the Spectre are totally different. The Diablo has much more aggressive shaping to it; it flies and turns much faster than a Spectre of the same size and it lands more like a 9 cell. The shaping on the Spectre is, well, "lighter" - it's not as elliptical as the Diablo. How's that for confusing? ;)

I'd class a Diablo with a Stiletto. Nobody with 70 jumps would be buying one from me. Like the Stiletto (and other higher performance canopies), you must have perfect body position on opening; seen quite a few line twist cutaways on Diablos.

But I'll sell anyone off student status a Spectre. At light wingloadings (1.0 to about 1.2) it's easy to get good landings with and still fun to fly.

I understand the dangers of a faster canopy, more speed= more energy. And the dangers of a canopy that turns too easy for a novice, overcorrect or react and turn yourself into the ground. But I don't understand the dangers of a 9 cell approach and flare compared to a 7 cell other than it being flatter. Are you sure the Diablo of the same size is faster than a similar sized spectre? I have personally flown both but just not in the same size so I have nothing to compare directly. Although I don't hick it flares like a 9 cell at all. Glen

I've flown both a Spectre 150 and a Diablo 150. The Diablo turns much faster and tighter and flies faster through the air. It is also faster on approach and requires more attention to the flare.

Let me rephrase. I meant that the Diablo approach and flare is more like a Stiletto or other higher performance canopy.
