All I was really trying to say is that the VX is not a canopy you want to be constantly getting current and then going uncurrent. If you do enough jumps that it doesn't matter what rig it is in, then cool deal.
But if you are in a situation where you will do one or two jumps a day on it if it is in your secondary rig, and eight jumps a day on it if it is in your primary rig, put it in your primary rig. Either way, jump the fuck out of it until you feel as comfortable under it as you do your current canopy.
I have a xfire2 in my rig. Last summer, I would ocasionaly jump my friends velocity. I lost a toggle down low and I wasn't ready to deal with it. I done broke myself!
I think that had I actually devoted the time to learning the canopy, I would have had the skills to deal with that situation.
I think if you have it now, put it in your current rig and use it for camera jumps, fun jumps and swooping. Table the wingsuit until you get the second rig built or until you are comfortable enough with the canopy to use it for that too. Also, you can borrow a rig from a friend or teamate for that.
Don't take the transition lightly(not saying you are). Remember, that canopy will kill you in the blink of an eye if you let it.
Isn't Chuck Blue in Raeford? Have you talked to him about it. I know he jumps a velocity, but he has a lot of experience in this area.
Have fun and be safe.
Methane Freefly - got stink?

any highly WL canopy can do that....even my xfire.

yes he jumps here, and trust me, i pick his brain alot too.....but i wanted knowledge from people who jump THESE canopies.

QuoteThe front riser pressure is a lot higher.
this is more so with the crossfire 2. the original crossfire "post recall" alot of them had HIGH front riser pressure and flew just like the vx, the original ones were very ROUGE. not all flew the same. but they opened the same.
my 99 crossfire has ALOT of front riser pressure. just like the vx.

With such a small change in wing load, I think you will actually feel like the VX is doggin it a little. Highly loaded Crossfire 2s are twitchy little buggers and snappy turners. CB flight is something totally different - It feels tight and rigid, but kinda slow. Until you learn how to harness the power....
Have fun.

Since you are loading the xfire up pretty high, you will probably see a lot more lift coming from the vx. I found the xfire performance started to drop off over 2.0.
The front riser pressure is a lot higher. I can pull it down pretty far, and it wont pull from your hand until you let it. You can let it up a little, but you wont get it back down once speed has started building.
It is a lot more ground hungry in full flight, and when you transition from brakes to rear risers (for glide lets say) the canopy surges quite a bit. It floats pretty well in brakes but like most Icarus canopies, I believe it gets it's best glide from the rear risers.
I was pretty surprised how well the VX opened. I roll the tail real tight (like press the air out of it over your shoulder and then roll the tail some more). I have gotten really consistant openings that way.
And the recovery arc is a lot longer. The VX really holds on to its speed around the corner.
Give it a shot, I think you'll really like it.
