indyz 1 #1 November 27, 2002 Recently I've become interested in learning rigging, at least on a conceptual level. Maybe someday I'll even learn to do it for real. Anyway, I figured one of Poynter's Manuals would probably be a good place to start, but I don't know which one to get, Volume I or Volume II. At fifty bucks a shot, I can really only afford one of them right now, and the Paragear catalog isn't much help in deciding. So I guess the question is, which Poynter book would be best for somebody looking to learn about rigging in general? Thanks, Brian
masher 1 #2 November 27, 2002 I think that Vol II is parachutes post-84...-- Arching is overrated - Marlies
ernokaikkonen 0 #3 November 27, 2002 I don't have the manuals handy, but: Get Vol2. The newest parachutes in that one are Sabres and Stilettoes, IIRC. The newest parachutes in Vol 1 are old. The general parts about repairs and parachute construction would also be closer to the present in Vol 2.
sar911 0 #4 November 27, 2002 If you are seriously interested in becoming a rigger, get both as they contain different information. Also I would recommend the Parachute Rigging Course and either the printed or software version of the Parachute Rigger Study Guide that contains the entire 291-question poll for the written exam. All of the above are available directly from Para Publishing at www.parapublishing.com/parachute/resources.html
riggerrob 643 #5 November 27, 2002 Yes, buy Poynter's Manual volume 2 first. Volume 2 covers parachutes manufactured from circa 1984 to 1991. If money is tight, then print out the dozens of packing manuals available on-line.
