AggieDave 6 #1 January 3, 2005 I've seen this mentioned a couple of times but haven't been able to find a full explaination of the the canopy in my searches. Is it that semi-crossbraced canopy they were playing with a while back? (center 3 cells x-braced the rest open).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Canuck 0 #3 January 3, 2005 Jim Slaton describes it a little in the forums of canopypiloting.com. You can also find some pics if you search a little. It's a 27 cell with no stabalizers and the nose looks slighlty different than a VX. I'm sure there is more to it than that, but that's what you can see clearly in the pics. Also, I believe it comes with HMA lines - at least as an option. The canopy you refer to with only cross bracing in the middle is (I believe) the GLX which is the ground launch specific canopy. AggieDave 6 #4 January 3, 2005 Ok, cool, thanks for the links. Once again, no love for the fat boys, huh? Oh well. (Its not like I'm at the experience/skill level to even watch one being swooped yet)--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Bartje 0 #5 January 3, 2005 Is Icarus not testing a 33cell cross braced canopy? I heared something like that in spain that they are jumping it but yet the canopy has some minus points. A FreeFly Gypsy
AggieDave 6 #6 January 3, 2005 I saw pics of Clawson tearing it up on an 11-cell VX (33-cell, whatever)...from what I understand, it opens like past 11 cells in the history of the sport...very poorly. *shrug* I bet one of the folks on here that knows more about the ins and outs of Icarus prototypes could talk about more details.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Spizzzarko 0 #8 January 4, 2005 I have been told by several different people, who are near PD, that there is a new High Performance PD canopy that is being tested that will outswoop the velocity. I have been thinking last night about what the future may bring for canopy's. I think maybee rigidity is the way of the future. This can be done maybee with some sort of inflatable air locked inner spar. More inner ribs and cross braces. Maybee cross braces that just don't attach to the top skin, but CB's that attach to the bottom skin too. Maybee a thinner airfoil. This draw back of these idea's will be pack volume, but that may solve the problems of rig sizing. If the main packs up bigger than you can have a bigger reserve container.
