ReyNier 0 #1 November 22, 2004 Talking to some high profile competitors (PST) about competition disciplines most were of the opinion that the classical speed, distance and precision rounds are not challenging enough. For the EMPURIABRAVA BEACH SWOOP CHALLANGE we will offer some new disciplines like "carving accuracy","s-carve distance","short track speed" and "highjump accuracy". The rounds before finals will be held very similar to PST or EST rules. Semi finals and Finals will be a mix out of classical set ups and new disciplines. In case you want more information for training purpose, contact me.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #2 November 22, 2004 Actually, if you want to best prepare your local, or at least national canopy pilots for the IPC event you need to at least have the "classic" events (speed, distance, zone accuracy). You might pass on distance, but speed and accuracy are key events. While the guys you talked to may have been bored with those events, the very best canopy pilots in the world still blow gates on a pretty regular basis (vertical extensions) in competition. As to carving accuracy, that's been around for at least five years (starting with the old PPPB series) and was incredibly fun. Lyle used to do high-jump stuff in his meets and that was fun too. ReyNier 0 #3 November 22, 2004 As we've got our competition site at the beach, competitors can "attack" a course different as at a pond, landing on grass. As much as I remember, Lyle did highjump in Daytona on the beach and it got taken out because you can only really run this comp safely on beaches. The highjump we are planning is slightly different. Entry gate, overfly a certain altitude and land in a fair distance behind. It is more a discipline to pop it up on rears and then fly it back down into accuracy (mix out of hight, accuracy and distance). That there was carving accuracy before is new to me. Out of intrest it would be interesting to get those rules, do you know where to find them?
SkymonkeyONE 4 #4 November 22, 2004 Look on the www.canopypiloting.com website under "PST" and there you can find the definitions of the rules and diagrams of the courses. The original carving accuracy was designed to be run over water as there are points for dragging through gates and out into the pond prior to throwing your carve, but I could imagine it possible to work out over a beach if you enter from the water side. ReyNier 0 #5 November 23, 2004 The PST rules you're talking about (Carving Accuracy) are entry - various carve angles -exit. To avoid confusion, I should have found another name for what we are planning to do. We'll use similar rules to the classical PST accuracy but the setup before the target zone is carved. The carve is set and you can't choose the angle. Entry - set carve angle - target. We don't have a problem with setting up above water, we have the set up above water (river) then beach and then sea. On an extreme well performed long carve you could get sweet water - sand - salt water. Beautyful location!
SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 November 23, 2004 What you propose sounds fun and is not at all anymore hazardous to perform than standard zone accuracy in my opinion so go for it! I only wish I could swing a trip over there for the event. Chuck
