mischo 0 #1 September 3, 2004 I am looking into a 21 cell Xaos, I have been flying a 27 cell for over a year now but I am starting to chill out a touch. Does anyone here fly a 21 cuz I hear the openings are outstanding and they still are swoopy. If any one here has flown a 118 Xaos-21 let me know here or via PM cuz I have an OJ container with a new Xaos written all over it. Thanks Mish
chileanXaos 0 #2 September 3, 2004 Hello , I would like to know why are you changing your xaos 27 for a 21 cells , I fly my xaos21 88 at a 2.05 wingloading , and I feel It should be loaded a little heavier, the openings are awesome the best I have jumped , just the best . I would like hearing your experiences on your xaos-27 at 2.5 wingloading.
mischo 0 #3 September 3, 2004 Hi, I have been jumping the xaos for over a year and the openings are great. The wing loading has increased to about 2.7 as I have gained a few lbs. My swoops are OK but I realize that I am loading the canopy too much for performance sake. I bought a VX 109 and there is little comparison. The front riser pressure was heavy to say the least and the openings sent me to the chiropracter. I dont think that 2.5 is optimum for any canopy. I do want the 27 118 but I am curious about the 21 and peoples experinces with them. I plan to fly alot of camera and AFF soon so I want pure bliss. How does the 21 react to line twists. The 27 is still very forgiving in that regard. I think the real reason for the 21 is that I cant afford a new container and I need to find out if the 118 will fit in the OJ. chileanXaos 0 #5 September 3, 2004 In my xaos-21 I have opened with a loose toogle and opened fine . I prefer the openings of my xaos than from my crossfire ,
Miami 0 #6 September 4, 2004 QuoteI do want the 27 118 but I am curious about the 21 and peoples experinces with them. I have been nothing but happy with my 21's. I fly camera fairly frequently and the openings are the best I have had on any canopy (the only other thing that has come close is the spectre). QuoteI plan to fly alot of camera and AFF soon so I want pure bliss. How does the 21 react to line twists. The 27 is still very forgiving in that regard. Both the 21 and 27 have flown great in line twists for me. I have only had line twists once with the 21 and 2 or 3 times with the 27, none of them needing a cutaway. QuoteI think the real reason for the 21 is that I cant afford a new container and I need to find out if the 118 will fit in the OJ. Both of my containers were built for Xaos 21's, but I eventually sold one of the 21's and bought a 27. There is a definite difference in the pack volume...the 27 fits but it is very snug. If you have any other specific questions feel free to PM me and I will do my best to answer them! Hope this helps...Miami
mischo 0 #7 September 4, 2004 Thanks for the responses, I left out of the original post that I have a J1 as well. I was thinking that could be good for a 27 and I could stick the VX in the OJ. My bad! Mish
jumperconway 0 #8 September 4, 2004 My 21's are small but a friend has a 113-27 in an OJ. The 118-21 will fit fine! My experience with 27's is 2.4 is about right! I have a chop on both my 21-85 and my 27-79 from severe line twists flat on my back and in the basement! I got a bigger container, RS-1 and haven't had a problem since. The 27 packs about 20% bigger than the 21 IMHO.
mischo 0 #9 September 4, 2004 Booyah!, I am amazed how I have been able to get out of some of the line twists I have had on my Xaos-27 98,I have had to chop 3 times from other canopies in line twists but everything always seems to work out w/ the xaos. Maybe I have gotten better at flying the harness during opening but I generally, have no problem w/the 98. I do think that having it in a TJN has contributed to a few line twists as it was rather tight. The coolest thing is that the canopy opens the same way every time. Slow enough in the box that I can usually clear the twists before the slider even comes down. This is regards to ChilenXaos' question of how the canopy behaves loaded up at 2.5. I've felt the same way with both the 21 and 27 loaded at 2.9:1 (closer to 3:1 when jumping camera). Just had some pretty bad twists on the 27 this past weekend (watched the bag spin as it left the container), thought for sure I would have to chop as it came out of the bag, but it flew great and I had no problem kicking out. I've also had the left brake fire off twice during opening on the 27...both times it opened without twists and could be correct easily with risers until the other brake was released. Hope this helps...Miami
jumperconway 0 #11 September 5, 2004 I was mistaken, it was a xaos 118-27 in an OJ. It was very tight.
jumperconway 0 #12 September 7, 2004 QuoteSeen this yet? http://www.sunpath.com/sizchart.htm Xaos21-118 will fit. Xaos27-118 won't fit (imho). JFYI- I had my 21-88 in my RS my 27-79 fits quite well in my rs-1!
ffejdraga 0 #13 September 8, 2004 I have been jumping two Xaos 21 120s for the last 700 jumps or so. So far, this is the best canopy I have ever flown. I am constantly doing camera, and NEVER ONCE have I had a hard opening. Last year I was getting line twists all the time, and the canopy would just sit there straight and level while I got out of them. (Happily this year no line twists...thanks to other people who pack for me that are better at it ). Half my birdman jumps are on this canopy (Ok, so that is only four jumps...) but no problems there either. All around I love it, couldn't be better. hope this helps you. jeff D-16906

Spizzzarko 0 #16 September 9, 2004 Ok your right... It's a brick... But my superior packing skills allow me to get 10lbs of junk into a 5lbs bag. It's also not my fault you bought a container 3 sizes to big!!! Hugs and kisses
