chileanXaos 0 #1 July 18, 2004 Hi guys , I was wondering how are you loading your xaos-21 , I load mine at 1,97 to 1 and feel it needs to be loaded more . I would really apreciate your experiences on loading and flight performance . how do you feel this canopy should be loaded. Thanks
NewClearSports 0 #2 July 19, 2004 I load mine at 2.2 and like it. If I were to change my loading to what I would think would be ideal I think 1.9 would be about perfect. The reason I say this is at the very end of the swoop I sometime wish I had just a little more lift to pop it up. I don't like running out my landings. Maybe the 27 would be better for this. I also just recently started using my rear risers and wow, this canopy flies great on rears. All in all a really great flying machine!!
jeffmullins 0 #3 July 19, 2004 I load my 78 Xaos-21 at about 2.6 to 1.
diveout 0 #4 July 19, 2004 I have a 125 that I load at 2.05 and I think it's the ideal loading for the type of jumping that I do. I get a huge amount of bottom end lift -I can land it on all rear-risers after a good turn and it's got plenty of Oh crap flare (like get me off of the surface of the pond -NOT dig me out I'm low) which I need from time to time as I've just started freestyle swooping. I thing the large wing size helps with this also.
chileanXaos 0 #5 July 19, 2004 Hi Jeff I how does it flies at your wingloading , have you flown bigger ones , what you think about them ?
ffejdraga 0 #6 July 19, 2004 Hey, be careful. At 700 jumps, 1.97 is enough for you. Gain some more experience (lots more) before you downsize or add weight. Stay alive. jeff D-16906
chileanXaos 0 #7 July 19, 2004 Hi Jeff , you think that at my wingloading now at 2.0 would make much difference in safety to go to 2.1 or 2.2 .
jeffmullins 0 #8 July 19, 2004 QuoteHi Jeff I how does it flies at your wingloading , have you flown bigger ones , what you think about them ? My canopy flies great at a 2.6 wingloading. I have flown up to a 90 square foot xaos-21 at an exit weight of 220 as well as a 53 square foot xaos-21 at an exit weight of 180 ( I was a lot smaller at the time). I think the larger wing gives more distance. Also it is up to you to decide if your ability will allow you to add weight or jump a smaller canopy. ffejdraga 0 #9 July 19, 2004 That is your call to make. All I am saying is that you are already at a pretty extreme wing loading for your experience level, and you need to be careful if you want to keep your habits of jumping and breathing. I have no idea of your abilities, judgement, etc. so I can't judge either way. All I am saying is that 700 jumps is only a few for a wingloading of2.0 or so. All I am saying is be careful bro, dont hurt yourself, live a long time, and think on every jump. jeff
chileanXaos 0 #10 July 19, 2004 Thanks for the advice Jeff , I already have 300 jumps onmy xaos , I know I dont have many jumps , but all have been in small canopies . anyway I am not looking to downsize, but I think my xaos-21 would perform much better with higher wingloadings like 2.2 . chileanXaos 0 #11 July 19, 2004 Jeff do you think your canopy would fly better at a 2.3 2.2 wingloading instead of 2.6 , giving you more distance . I am really lucky , having you guys with such experience posting , thanks
jeffmullins 0 #12 July 19, 2004 It probably would perform better at that wingloading. I have had this canopy since 2001 ( it used to be an FX) and have close to 1800 jumps on it. Until last year my wing loading on it was around 2.3-2.4 when i had an exit of 165lbs, and right now I do not want to buy a new canopy. I even recently sold my 65 xaos-21 to finish up my private pilots license.

skydiven4fun 0 #14 July 25, 2004 I Jump 2 Xaos, My 104 I load at 2.4 and my 120 I load at just under 2.1. I can tell you that I get a longer swoop out of my 120 without much effort, But my 104 is a lot more fun to fly. The 120 flys better to me on rear risers than my 104. But I jump my 104 most of the time because it's fun to fly and land. I also have put on 20lbs of weight with the 120 at with the added weight will swoop it ass off. But I still love the 104 the most.Still here after all these years Clayton
chileanXaos 0 #15 July 25, 2004 Hi Mike I think that at 2.25 or near the xaos will perform it best , I will add some weight and then see how it flyes
volo 0 #16 July 26, 2004 Hey guys, I am currently flying a Xaos-21 108 and i'm loading it at 2.04. It's my first crossbraced canopy and I have about 200 jumps on it. I wanted to start of slow and I figured it was a nice transition from the Stilleto 120 I'd been jumping for a little while. I've been focusing on my swooping alot recently and I've found that 2.04, my distance has been great on that wing loading. I've been trying different style approaches and turn initiations and my Xaos tends to want to pull out of it's dive sooner than I'd like. Of course with a 2.04, it would seem about right. I've been chatting with TJ a good bit about it lately and I'm looking to demo or even maybe buy a Xaos-27 98. Not sure what I'm going to do, but I like what I hear about the 27's. I'm definitely looking for a longer recovery arc, but I don't want to sacrifice the distance and versatility. Overall, my Xaos-21 has been treating great and I love it! Nice dives, long swoops (with my wing loading), versatile, flies great, and not to mention....the best openings (knock on wood)!!!!! I'm still shopping around, but so far I'm very happy. skydiven4fun 0 #17 July 26, 2004 Try adding some weight, You will surprised to 10 lbs will do, Once you feel comfortable you can add more. It will help you see what loading is right for your style of flying Before spending money on a new canopy.Still here after all these years Clayton
