Nose Tuck Under on Xaos: Just out of Curiosity?

Recommended Posts

Can't even remember where I read this, but I read somewhere that there was a problem with the Xaos' nose tucking with a hard Front riser input. Does anyone have any experience with this or was that hearsay? Has anyone experienced this with the Xaos near 2.4:1? Thanks.
Unknowing attempting to take out all 4 wheeled vehicles remotely close to the landing area!

That's what I jump. I load it less but have loaded it higher. I use lots of front riser input. I've TRIED real hard, to fold mine under and failed to do so every time.

It's been out a while, If it was prone to fold under, the info would be out there already.

Are you referring to a recent incident? I'd like to hear the details because there's a lot of Xaos canopies out there now.
My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

I've seen one OPEN like this, but not happen in flight. During the swoop tournament at Eugene Skydivers, I was always exiting right after Brian Gile, and saw his Xaos 27 openings (don't know size or WL). It seemed to open "nose last" every time (sat in fortune cookie mode for awhile). This was observed by himself and others, as well.

No speculation into what was causing this, nor am I trying to imply that this would happen in flight. In fact, if I ever go cross-braced, I'd probably go with a Xaos. Just saying that it consistently opened with the nose under the canopy.

This is easy to duplicate all the time, pulling the slider out in front of the nose and then stuff the nose. Most velocity openings I've witnessed do this regularly.

That's actually how I pack my Sabre2, but I always have nose first inflations. I guess some canopies just react differently to having a "blocked" nose than others.

There is a big difference in a Saber2 with open cells versus The closed nose of the Xaos. What I meant was easily duplicated on specifically the Xaos's.

I have been jumping Xaos-21 and Xaos-27 the last 2-3 years and have never experienced any problem like this during flight. I have pushed both canopies realy hard both on fronts and harness, and even after flying in deep breaks going to hard front riser turns. Both canopies have been nice to me. After i learn how to fly them, they dont give me any surprises.;)

I had som problems with my Xaos-27 (118 sqfeet)in the opening in the beginning. The endcells opend first and the end cells touch togehter in front of the center cells. When i pulled down the rears the canopy started flying like normal. When we modified the steeringlines and changed the breaksetting (2 inches deeper setting/shorter lines) it never happend again. Since that the Xaos-27 have been giving me the sweetest openings you can imaging. :)
