dsbbreck 0 #1 January 28, 2004 Buying a used Velocity and just wondered how often those of you with Vectran lines replace them? I've heard it's more often than regular lines.David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question." johnny1488 1 #2 January 28, 2004 I go about 200-300 on the lower control lines. At that time I take a good look at the cats-eye loop for the brake settings to see if there is any wear there. Other than that it all depends on how you treat them. (It could be sooner for the lowers, also, if you tear'em up.) The great thing about vectran, is if it looks like shit, its shit. ianmdrennan 2 #3 January 28, 2004 I replace my lower control lines (cascades down) every 200 jumps even if they look like they could have more jumps done on them. It costs $16 so I'd rather pay that than have a brake snap on landing. The remaining lines I had to replace after 300 jumps. I jumped in sandy conditions and found it wore the lines out very quickly. Vectran darkens quickly but look out for fibres sticking out the sides of the lines, this is a good indicator of their condition. Saw in another post you're going to be doing some PST stuff this year - sweet, me 2. I'll meet you at the pond Hope this helps, Blue skies, stay safe. skygod7777 0 #4 January 28, 2004 i replace my lower contol lines about every 200 jumps or so (even though i haven't gotten around to it on my current vx , but i will). and then i replace the line set at 400, ok maybe 500. i don't fuck around with that shit, i want my lines to be ok. i could just imagine a line breaking right in the middle of a swoop, or in the middle of a dive. i've seen up to like 1000 jumps put on a set, but i would not recomend that at all. later
BrianSGermain 1 #5 January 28, 2004 It varies so much, it is hard to give a straight answer. If your canopy opens hard and your slider grommets are trashed, you may need new lines in 300 jumps or less. On occasion, they may go to 700 or more. The best bet is to stay accutely aware of the condition of your equipment, and replace components before it is time. Better safe than wandering around in the swamp looking for your canopy...Instructional Videos:www.AdventureWisdom.com Keynote Speaking:www.TranscendingFEAR.com Canopies and Courses:www.BIGAIRSPORTZ.com
RMURRAY 1 #7 January 28, 2004 For my VX, I am replacing the lower control lines now (at only 275 jumps) and will replace all the lines at 500-550. rm
jumperconway 0 #8 January 29, 2004 With the exception of the lower steering lines, which I replaced at 350 jumps, my lines still looked new at 500 jumps. I packed indoors on CLEAN carpet air conditioned! I would have had no problem going 1000 with the exception of the steering lines which began to show wear! dsbbreck 0 #9 January 29, 2004 Thanks for all your advice. I just bought a velocity with 400 jumps. None of the lines have been replaced. The owner says they are in good shape, but I will inspect them thouroughly when it gets here. I think I'll change the lower control lines no matter what just to be on the safe side.David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question." breadhead 0 #10 January 29, 2004 1100 jumps on my Vectran lineset. Lower control lines (below cascade) have been replaced at least 5 times. The upper control lines (above cascade) have been replaced once. I've heard of somebody who has had a vectran line break during deployment, after 1800 jumps on that lineset. I hope you love your new canopy (I have nothing but GREAT things to say about the velo). See you on the circuit.
