Which container do you prefer?

Recommended Posts

I have been blessed by god and my dad and have the oportunity to buy a new container, so now am in the quest of finding "the one" (it will have to last me for a lot of jumps and downsizes).

here's the Q: Which container do you prefer and why? am looking for comfort, security, beauty and friendly for all the skydiving disciplines (you can exclude wingsuit).

right now am looking at the odyssey cause a friend told me that its the most comfortable of all, cause it has chest rings, hip rings, the cut-in backpad, etc. Can your choice beat this? if yes, how?

I don't have the oportunity to demo so I will trust your answers and base my buy in what I read from you people.

Hey, Dude, good to see you around!

I know next to nothing about containers, so my opinion won't even be offered. But I will suggest you talk to Lisa here, 'cause she sells these things for a living, and has helped many people out.

Good luck, and post what you decide!

I love my Wings, was about to get a new one when I heard of the new version that is coming out, so I'm going to wait and see what that is. The rig is very comfortable, freefly safe, rigger likes it, and the price is just a bonus.

I'm gonna vote for Wings too. The only thing I wish it had was chest rings, but chest rings offer only marginal advantages, so its almost a non-issue. I love my new Wings. It looks great, has great pin and riser security, and the best part is the cost. You can get a fully loaded Wings container for about the same price as a base Odyssey with no options.

Sure I was seriously interested in getting a Mirage G4 or an Odyssey, but since I know this won't be my final rig, I didn't want to pay 2000$ for a container when I could get a Wings for much less.

And my rigger liked it as well. I think it is a well thought out rig.

OK I chose "Mirage G3 or G4" because that is way better as a pair than "Vector 2 or 3". The Vector 2 isn't even in the same league as the Vector 3/Micron. A Micron would be my first choice in a rig.

Hiya Michele! good to see you too!

Last time I talked to Lisa she suggested a Infinity cause its full extra and cheap but since I have the oportunity to spend the big bucks I am wondering what is the best thing around.

Am like you, I have no idea of other containers, been jumping a dolphin for about 70 jumps.

I voted for Infinity, but I also have not much to compare it to. I have rented both the Jav Oddessy, and the Infinity. If I had $$ to buy something right now, it would be the Infinity. While I like the Jav, it was not as comfortable as the Infinity is for my body. Remember, it's rented gear, so it is not custom, and because of that, there really is no point to my validation of one over the other. But you asked!

For price/value the wings followed very closely by the VooDoo v2.0. Both are great rigs. If I had cash to burn... Vector3 Mircon. They are hands down the most bomb proof rig out there, Mirage is close behind, but a V3 is the shinitz. Plus RWS is the best around to work with.

mmm... I see more poll answers than posts, please put in your 2 cents. :)

You asked for it. :P But I'd rely on someone like Lisa more than me. :S

I have the impression that most of the rigs you listed are good rigs and it's hard to go wrong with most of them (though there are one or two on your list which I'm told aren't as good). I recently took possesion of a Wings container and am happy with it. I'm sure if I had purchased one of the other top rigs (like an Odyssey or a Mirage as an example), I'm sure I would have been happy with those as well.

There's my two cents for what it's worth. [:/]

Back to reality ... I'm bummed because I might not get to jump this weekend thanks to yet another storm threatening my DZs. How the heck am I supposed to improve on my jump numbers when Mother Nature keeps getting in the way. :(

At first I wanted an Infinity just because everyone at my DZ jumps them (well most everyone) and they look really cool, and they are manufactured in the DZ loft! But then I asked around and everyone that had theirs custom made absolutely LOVES them! They are really comfy, pretty much made for freefly, great riser covers, very sturdy. You can pick up the rig by the main pin flap and it will NOT open. They do really good work, and have great customer service. The student rigs are all infinity at my home DZ. Overall they are an excellent buy. I plan on getting a new infinity as my first container when I have the $$$$

I'm gonna have to say wings. And dont let the price make you think it's of lesser quality. I have a wings and it's REALLY secure man. And, it's sooooo comfortable. The only complaint that I have is they dont offer chest rings (OH MY !!!! WAIT A MINUTE :oI WONDER IF THATS WHAT THE NEW WINGS WILL HAVE?!!!) ohh, sorry dude, got a little excited:S ANywayz, I personally feel that the chest rigs help alot with people that are larger in the chest area... If you're average size up there, I dont think that they'll make a whole lot of difference. But definately get hip rings. Wings also looks kick ass!!! What??? You wanna see a picture... Oh, ok. I thiknk I have one of my rig kickin around.

Maybe some people can post some pics of other types of rigs for you to see too.?

Ok, heres mine...

I'd have a Javelin. No matter what other rigs there are I would always be thinking "its nice - but I'd rather have a Javelin"
I wouldn't have an odyssey though! Do you really think its worth $175 to have a choice of different materials and a cut in back pad!

if you're going to go big, the G4 with unisyn harness is extremely comfortable, when looking fora rig -- look at the details, what is the padding made of, can things be replaced easily in the field, riser cover sercurity, main pin protection, reserve pin protection, hardware type (look at the cable terminations at the end of the cut-away housings). those are the important things, and really only you can make the decision what's best for you. (I have 2 G3's, one with unisyn (chest rings), and one without, the unisyn design is more comfortable). Another thing to look at is harness design around the rings, and when you have the rig on and moce aronud, does the main lift web "pinch" right below the cutway and reserve handles (will that cause an issue, I'm not sure, but it is worth looking at).

You really should have listed the Micron. Superior riser and pin protection. Very comfrotable and streamlined. RWS is not only the inventor of most of the features and functions of all other containers, but is the supplier of their parts due to their superior quality control (and contracts). You can NOT go wrong with a Micron.

You know my choice of rig gianni - Voodoo 2.0 anyday. I know someone with a Oddy, and have seen video of his main flap and riser covers opening in the door and belly flying as well.

My Wings has to be one of the most comfortable rigs I've ever put on. It is very FF safe and a good looking rig (unlike the G4 and the Vector 3, which are ugly IMHO), also, the FF handle is a great thing to get on your rig, which ever one you buy. I can pick my rig up by the handle, it is very secure, but it is still very easy to pull out to deploy.

My first choice of the Javelin clones would be WINGS because it is the easiest to pack.
Second choice: Voodoo. Hm! Wonder if I am biased because I used to work for R.I.
Of the Vector/Centarus clones, Infinity is my first choice, but I really want a close look at the new chest strap configuration on the new M-class Vector 3/Micron or whatever they call it.
If tight finances were an issue, I can buy a custom Sidewinder for the same price as a stock Dolphin or Genera.
