static lining for performance?

Recommended Posts

Is there anyway to remove the slider and the PC and instead hook up going off the bridle a peice of breakcord static lined to the airplane so that when you jump out it immediately pulls the pin and then pulls the locking stows off and then breaks off leaving you with an open canopy and simply a bridle where you would have a bridle/collapse PC.

I am aware of the design to remove the PC/slider while youre under canopy that PD is researching, but wouldnt this be a lot simpler?

Just a thought, many people have probably had it before! :D

static line openings tend to result in line twists for one (at least thats what I remember from mine and my friends), so I'd assume that'd be a big negative? Besides you'd still have the d-bag and that creates a fair amount of drag too.

I do like the system that the PD guys use for reeling in the PC though. Quite neat.

A year or so ago, a buddy of mine (jumping a Stiletto 120 at around 1.8ish) had me static line him, to see how much of a different the canopy flew without the d-bag and pilot chute. It worked well, but with a few line twists. as Ian said, on most static lines, the d-bag tends to twist, causing line twists. That is the big down fall, especially with hp canopies. I've often thought of taking an old worn out d-bag, and pilot chute, and using it as a free bag. Only problem, is retrieving it (if possible) after every jump.
But, really, unless your in a competion or something, I don't really see a need.
