skydivegirl 0 #1 November 5, 2002 Just curious if anyone else has had this problem? The last jump I made on my Nitron 150 this past weekend resulted in 5-8 little random tears in my slider. My canopy is fine, no tears at all. I can't figure out what caused this. The first thing I thought was line burn but one of the tears looks like it was snagged by something. It was not a clean slice in the fabric. Someone also suggested it could have been ice but I don't know. I would have thought a slider should be able to withstand something like that. Any ideas?Pink Mafia Sis #
skyblade 0 #2 November 7, 2002 This post has been bugging me, and although I'm a low jump wonder I'll hazard a few guesses since nobody else is biting. Line burn edges are usually clean, with no fabric threads showing. If it was physically ripped you should be able to see loose fibers. Is this the case ? Do you have brass grommets on the slider? Have a look and see if there are any nicks on them with sharp edges... Besides those I'm stumped . Jaco >Anything worth doing requires a helmet
darkwing 5 #3 November 7, 2002 How many jumps on the canopy/slider? Was the opening hard, soft, normal? Is it possible that the slider was packed inverted? I've seen that done, and it could be hard on the slider (on the jumper too, although not necessarily). Are there any pointy, hard, hot-knifed corners on the slider? Check the grommets for burrs. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
annaandbob 0 #4 November 7, 2002 My guess would be grommets as well. If they are not seated properly they can snag the fabric causing tiny tears. It happened to one of my canopies many years ago.
Hooknswoop 19 #5 November 7, 2002 I have sliders get shredded beyond repair. I believe it is from friction w/ the lines. If the canopy is packed w/ a step-through (not saying this is what happened) the lines can destroy a slider. It doesn't take much for a line to burn through material. skydivegirl 0 #6 November 8, 2002 Actually I'm not sure about the grommets... that's something I haven't thought of. I only have about 100 jumps on this canopy. My new slider should be here tomorrow... and the slider in question is pacted away but I'll look at it closely this weekend. I'll let you know what I find... Thanks for the input!!!!!! ;)Pink Mafia Sis #
