freeflydrew 0 #1 September 25, 2003 I know that they're going to post scores here, or daily updates there, but how about some first hand reporting! For the people who aren't out in Perris, how's about a little play by play from the World Cup of Swooping? I think that I can speak for the masses by asking for a little detail here or there... Who's looking strongest? How fast was the speed round? What crazy sh&ts been going on? Any surprises or dissappointments? Even a little Pic Posting would be good! Bring it on!!! -drew

dgskydive 0 #3 September 25, 2003 I've been posting what I can from the few rounds I see before I go to work in the morning. Check Diablopilots about the opening pics. There hasn't been a lot of crazy shit to report. All the competitors are being very professional right now. The first of 3 major parties is going down tonight. I'm sure there will be plenty of shit to report after that. Check the other thread in the morning I'll post what I can. Quade and Diablo are doing the 124 ways. So they are getting ready while the Comp is going on.Dom
freeflybella 0 #4 September 26, 2003 I'm at home for this one - On game days, I usually get end-of-day reports. Promise to forward any info as it comes in. Edit: Okay, the down and dirty... 3 plane loads per round. Started a bit late but rocked through the first two rounds. Load of 120-ways goes up between 2nd and 3rd round (!!!!!?) All but 1 load of the 3rd round done - 6 HOUR WEATHER HOLD! Last load goes up just before sunset. Most likely no scores posted until tomorrow. Perris website now has page called "standings" -not updated yet. Had they only waited 1/2 hour to put up the 120-ways, the speed comp would've finished by noon. Bummer. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Jimbo 0 #11 September 27, 2003 QuoteVerticals took out some other good runs. What's a vertical? - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
PhreeZone 20 #12 September 27, 2003 Bust because they went above the top of the flags or they had something touch the ground before they stoped. Showlace touch the ground at 100 feet but your feet don't touch till 300? Score of 100. Go too high and above a 5 foot blade? BUST!Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
freeflybella 0 #13 September 27, 2003 There are 5 foot 'entry' gates at the start of each course. Some part of each competitors body must eclipse the top of the gates when entering the course or it's called a vertical extension. They are scored a 0 for that run. Most competitors try to get as close as possible to the top of those gates as it adds speed/distance to their run. Edited: Touching the ground will stop the clock - that's not a vertical - that's just the end of the run. This is actually a bit controversial because, for instance in the speed carving course if a competitor lays it over and touches an end cell to the ground - but is still flying, it is still considered the end of the run. It happened to one VERY good competitor in the quals and he had to do a 5th run to qualify. Weird. disclaimer: I know nothing.
