Some swoop pics from this weekend - 9/20/03

Quade,

Beyond the "oh cool" factor of these shots, they could be used for learning high performance canopy control, too. Breaking down individual movements and showing them at a single moment in time together which gives an overview of what certain pilots do to control their swoop.

Very interesting. B|

man I was like oh shit those guys are showing a lot of precision there by being able to swoop in such a tight formation in that pic! Then I felt like an idiot.

Nice pics quade, is that perris?

Yeah, that's Perris.

So, like, don't be so embarrassed about the concept of formation swooping. It does happen.

Last night after sunset, everyone else had landed and we were all trying to figure out where the hell the PD team guys were. I mean, we were out at the pond and everybody else had landed and it was starting to get sort of dark! Far too dark for me to actually capture anything meaningful with my camera.

Then, somebody spots five canopies about a mile out to the north and pretty high doing some non-contact CRW. The team approach the pond single file and in tight formation, flew west to east across the north end of the pond. Simultaneously they made 270 hooks and turned the in-trail formation into a five line abreast swooping the entire length of the pond with five rooster tails trailing from their toes.

Massive.

Everyone at the pond was in awe.

Yeah, that was the most awesome sunset swoop I'd ever seen. A group of friends and I were standing at the fence and watched the whole performance....from the time we all thought the tiny specs in the waning light were a trail of white balloons in the sky...to the in-line water toeing swoops.

One skydiver remarked, in awe, now -that- was worth the price of admission today! B|

Looking forward to very early mornings and many more shots like this this weekend!
