Martini 0 #1 March 16, 2003 Anybody have experience "popping" the toggles at the end of the dive to flatten out the canopy? Most folks tell me that a smooth, longer duration toggle stroke maintains speed better while others insist that a popping action creates less drag because the brakes aren't on as long at the initial planeout. What are the comp. swoopers doing? Clearly rear riser swoops are the most efficient but I'll leave that technique alone for a few hundred more jumps.Sometimes you eat the bear.............. skyboyblue 0 #2 March 17, 2003 don't know what the pro's are doing although i could guess but I think you'll hear that when you pop the toggles you'll lose a bit of effienciency in your swoop. However I'm sure almost everyone who likes to swoop has had to pop the toggles once in a while to dig themselves out of the basement of a dive.
PhreeZone 20 #3 March 17, 2003 Look at the Big Air Sportz manual on their website. For canopies with a negative arc you might need to pop more then others.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Martini 0 #4 March 17, 2003 Thanks Phree. I've read that manual several times before, it's one of the best pieces out there. Interestingly though, my Stiletto is considered to have a very positive recovery arc and it sure did before I had it relined. It used to come out of a dive too fast, prompting really low hooks but requiring no toggle input when I nailed the altitude. Now with a new lineset (and brakelines that aren't too short) it doesn't have that short arc and needs input to flatten out. 'Course maybe I haven't learned to start high enuf yet but it looks like it'll keep diving forever. How un-Stilettolike. A whole new thing to learn.Sometimes you eat the bear.............. Kris 0 #5 March 17, 2003 That's the second time this weekend I've heard that about relined Stiletto's. The first time was from a friend when I was discussing new canopies I was thinking about demoing because I am looking for something with a longer recovery arc than my Stiletto. He mentioned that after he recently got his Stiletto 120 back from PD it was an entirely different animal. He has several thousand jumps, most on Stiletto's, and he could really notice a change in the recovery arc. I may have to give PD a call tomorrow and find out what's up.
