diveout 0 #1 March 15, 2003 I cannot believe how sweet the xaos 27 demo I am flying lands and handles---totally unreal. However-something is up with the brake setting. It turns right only when the brakes are stowed, I release them and then it flies straight. Also. A couple of times (1birdman, 1 sub-terminal) it has inflated almost fully, with the slider up in a taco shape, flown for two to three seconds and then finished opening. It looks REALLY wierd... I am gonna buy the thing if I can get this problem fixed or fix it myself (I'm almost a rigger and I own a sewing machine) ..please advise (I don't wanna send it back if I dont have to). I've been the only one to ever jump this canopy -9 jumps, it's a 118 @ 2.
Samurai136 0 #2 March 15, 2003 If it has a right turn when the brakes are set it's not the brake/ toggle setting. It could be a number of things. 1. Compare the upper control line from the cat's-eye up. The right one may be shorter. Send it back to to be fixed. If it only has 9 jumps they built it wrong. 2. Tension knot. Is the right brake twisted up? Untwist and jump. 3. Perhaps at your wing loading you are harness turning? Call the manufacturer and tell them about it. I know there's usually a brake in period for a line set when it's brand new. Check 1 and 2 above before you call Precision. I wouldn't reccomend doing the work your self as you're not actually a rigger and sewing on HMA lines (smaller than spectra and vectran) will require precision that's really best left to the manufacturer, in my opinion. diveout 0 #3 March 15, 2003 Yea, it ain't the harness turn-I feel like I've eliminated that possibility My last 450 jumps are on a xaos 21 @2.0 (- about 30 on a set 400) The master rigger I took it to helped me measure the steering lines, and all of the c's and d's- they seem to be within what I would call a reasonable tolerance-even for this wingloading. I'd never just sew on the lines without appropriate supervision and an OK from Beezy or whomever at precision I'll jump it as much as possible today and give a further report
PhreeZone 20 #4 March 15, 2003 One thing to look at is the risers, check their length against spec. at that loading a slight change could be the issue. If your using slinks make sure they are all assembled the same way with no twists or kninks.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
MrHixxx 0 #5 March 15, 2003 I would have a look at the brake line cascades. 1. Do they match across the wing from each other. 2. Does the distance match between them (between the attachement points). -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
MrHixxx 0 #6 March 15, 2003 Um, you could also check if one ball hangs higher than the other and creates input. One leg may be shorter. One side of the brain may be heavier than the other. diablopilot 2 #7 March 17, 2003 Can't explain your turn, other than checking out the usual suspects. Trim, control line lengths, harness turn, ect. Jump it a bit more and you may find it's just you adjusting to a more sensitive and higher loaded canopy. The opening thing will go away. I used to experience that when I got my 93 Xaos 27 and after 40-50 jumps I couldn't get it to do it anymore. Never was realy scary and I've go some good video of it. Looks like it's just the HUGE slider eclipsing the center cells mouths, and causing them to inflate last. I'm assuming that my packing technique fixed that. In any event my 93, and 88 are the two nicest canopies I have ever flown. Good luck.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. rigging65 0 #8 March 17, 2003 Sounds like you've worked out most of the common culprits for the turn issue. Sometimes seaming a canopy just right (or wrong) can cause a turn in it. I had a stiletto that did that once, oh well. If it's not effecting the un-breaked flight (and you don't feel anything funky when you flare) I'd say screw it, just keep jumping...some of these things have a way of working themselves out, others don't. diveout 0 #9 March 20, 2003 The taco opening thing seems to have stopped for now. I put seven more jumps on the canopy since my last post. It still turns to the right before the brakes are released, but it's not a huge problem -Thanks everyone-

diveout 0 #11 March 20, 2003 I am absolutely going to keep it! It's still a demo for another 2 weeks, so I'm figuring the cash/debt arrangement necessary to make it mine, all mine... It's amazing what you can afford once it becomes a priority. Just a side note-Precision didn't have a demo in this size so they made me a custom colored one-it's a demo with an option to buy it directly from them. Sweet! airgord 1 #12 March 21, 2003 Hey Dan, when are you gonna go to SDO and get it wet? Oh wait, you probably did get it wet after your first jump on it.....swoop, flare, stop, canopy lands in front of you then......orgasmo!!!!!!!! You should probably clean that up before you show anyone.
sdctlc 0 #13 March 21, 2003 Gordo, You have an evil streak! diveout 0 #15 March 22, 2003 What up gordo? You must be referring to my swoop practice round at Eloy, that was a memorable landing, especially since I've got point of view video of it. I'd love to be competing in the Red Bull Qualifier this weekend but I can't be there. I slept in so much over the new year's boogie, you should've grabbed my 125 and took it for a dance. Tell Will I'm gonna slap him if he's not back here in OR for the Freedom Jam
airgord 1 #16 March 23, 2003 I will make sure Will is up there, Take care Dan, tell everyone I say hello.
diveout 0 #17 March 25, 2003 Just got off the phone with Chris @ Precision, He told me to keep it for another two weeks and see if the problem settles out, if not- they'll build me a new one. Thanks for your help guys!
