Getting A Rig Inspected

Recommended Posts

I just bought a used container/reserve/cypres. Its a Dolphin from 1998 with a Tempo 170 reserve. It appears to be in pretty good condition. The repack is still in date, though I don't intend to jump it until my main (a new Hornet 170) arrives. Should I search out a rigger to inspect it now, or wait until the main shows up and get it repacked and checked out at that time? I expect the main in about a month. I would be inclined to get it looked at immediately, but the condition and fact that it's in date is making me assume it's airworthy and can wait. Any thoughts?

The fact that its indate has little to do with it since there are some riggers out there that don't actually do inspections at repacks and could have packed a canopy that should not have if they really had inspected it. Its probally fine but personally... I like to know the rigger thats packing and inspected my last real chance. Its all about if you trust some random rigger that you've probally never met before and your not sure how good they actually are...

My advice... Get the rig inspected before the main arrives so the day it gets there 20 minutes later you can have it inspected and jump it.. instead of having everything there then just having to wait for days on your rigger to inspect and repack it. If something needs fixed now, you have all this time to have it done while waiting on the main...

Dewd....it's your life, and your $$. Don't assume, get it checked.

Get your rigger to check it out now, so if there's a problem, you can either return it or get the problem fixed prior to getting your main. that way, you can jump more quickly on it once it's assembled...

Just my .02, though.

I certainly wouldn't jump it without getting it inspected! However, what you and Phree said makes a lot of sense. if there are issues, then it's better to have them sorted before I get the main. That is what I'm going to do. Now I need to find a rigger...
