Skydive2 1 #1 February 26, 2003 Just wondering how many crossbraced canopies are at the average DZ. At mine (a King Air/Cessna DZ), there are only 3 of us flying crossbraced (a lot of swoopers, but mostly flying stiletto's, and crossfire's) Blue skies Lance
SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 February 26, 2003 None at my home dz (only very HP canopy is a spinetto 107), although my alternate 2 dz's have quite a few.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
Rdutch 0 #3 February 26, 2003 I see whole days where nothing is being jumped at my dz but cross braced canopie's. And there is definitely a lot of load's almost every day that there is nothing but a crossbraced canopy landing. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of! PhreeZone 20 #4 February 26, 2003 1, no one else can stay current enough to get something small enough that comes in crossbraces. That and the whole hook turn ban at the DZ prevents too radical of flight. We do have a rapiodly growing collection of Airlocks. Last year it was 2 all summer, the I got one then Cajun got one then another then Wildblue got one and I know of 2 more people that were looking at them.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
BikerBabe 0 #5 February 26, 2003 I actually think it's only 1 at the moment. We're a small DZ, but because of personal connections, we have a lot of folks flying Big Air canopies (Jedei, Samurai). I can think of 3-4 off the top of my head, and that's probably about 25% of our regular experienced jumpers. Plus, our atmospheric conditions make an airlocked canopy really attractive...lots of dust devils and turbulence in the hot dry summers.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! skycat 0 #6 February 26, 2003 Caravan DZ, with 2 206s 4 I can think of off the top of my head, all instructors at the DZ. Only about 3 other on ellipticals, myself included. The rest on squares and 90% of those are F-111.Fly it like you stole it!
AndyMan 7 #7 February 26, 2003 Last time I was down at Eloy, I saw close to a hundred. Last time I was at Skydive Chicago, I saw... 30. Last time I was at the Illinois Valley Parachute Club, I don't think I saw any. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Yoshi 0 #8 February 26, 2003 we have a few at our dz.. maybe a few too many, but the people flying them are current and obviously have some clue what they are doing.. I on the otherhand wont fly one for at least another 500-1000 jumps.. its time for me to hone in on my new pocket rocket and learn all the aspects of its flying.. -yoshi_________________________________________ this space for rent. skygod7777 0 #18 February 28, 2003 Quotedont forget gila he has an 89 vx I think... maybe its a 79... and steve alexander has a vx...he never jumps anymore though... ya, he does have a 79, i forgot about that. but he is selling it. he wants a fx. he can't handle the vx. did you see him crash at the boogie?? it was ugly, feet, head, feet, head. is about how it went. i'm not sure if he should even have a crossed braced. and steve, well, he doesn't jump much (2 this whole past season). and he won't jump his vx anymore because he got fat. i remember he was also trying to sell it, but i'm not sure if he ever did. it has a left turn built in, but i think it's his risers. later

Spizzzarko 0 #20 March 2, 2003 What are your thoughts on the Xaos 27? I've been thinking about going to a 27 cell to go further in my swoops, but I'm very interested in the openings. I fly a 13 lbs camera helmet in Colorado, where the field elevation is 5500, and the DA gets close to 10,000 on a hot summer day. I currently fly an FX 104, and I was thinking about downsizing to a 94 VX or Xaos 27. There really isn't that much info on either of those canopy's out there, with exception to the common belief the vx is a slammer on opening. Hook and swoop jump's his 60 VX at my DZ, and say's it's the best canopy for swooping, and that's about it. Thanks for the info...
skygod7777 0 #21 March 2, 2003 i have jumped both canopies (vx, and xaos 27), and i liked both of the openings. the xaos opens a bit slower, like a longer snivel, but is also jumpy, it tended to be off heading of like the 30 jumps i put on it. my vx, opens great, on heading, and soft. it's not a long snivel like the xaos, but is still soft. the older vx's had opening problems. they opened very hard somethimes, and other times only kinda hard. but icarus has gotten the openings under control now. i have a brand new one, it was built in december and i also jump a camera, top mounted, later
