VX vs FX

Recommended Posts

Quote

Opening characteristics, riser pressure, anything else that you might find useful to note.

they are defintally 2 very different canopies.

openings. well, the vx used to open like shit. now, the opening are tamed down, and pretty good. the fx, same thing, they used to open pretty shitty, but as of like 2 or so years ago, they finally got tamed downd and pretty decent. my vx, opens nice, and doesn't "dance" very much, if not at all. same with my old fx.

riser pressure

vx, high, very high, but still managable
fx, it was pretty good for me, i liked how it was, but any crossbraced canopy will seam like a lot to your vengence

anything else, well. they both have really good glide. and demo them both, as much as you can before you make a decision. and also demo the xaos's and velocity. and when the onyx comes out, jump it, jump everything you can before you make a decision.

Does icarus, precision offer demo's?
I got a demo xaos, but it was hard, they didnt seem interested.
I have seen Icarus tent's but that was just at boogie's. But I would love to jump a vx/fx if not for anything but to see what every icarus jumper talks so good about.

My VX is old and opens nice (it has the little parachute mark on it that shows it was either made in Spain or in New Zealand as opposed to Precision).

My FX was newer (Jan 2001) and made by precision and tended to open hard. It also tended to have the seams come un sewn.

Anyway the big differences for me:

My VX absolutley will not plane out by itself after a hard dive (by plane out I mean recover in a positive glide angle above straight in normal flight..a stilleto will plane out ,a vengeance is seems to sort of stay in a dive but not as extreme as the VX).

My FX would come close to plaining out by itself. The vX requirers more toggle input to do so.

My VX is much more sensitive in the harness than the FX. I can spiral down in the harness pretty tight in the VX, but in the FX I can only do gradual turns.

The VX responds very well to slight toggle or wieght shift during a swoop, I can change direction s very easily in case of a wuffo running out in front of me (;) granted I still need some lead time and I could still be surprised).

The FX seems to want to go in a straight line after a hard hook and requires more severe toggle input to initiate a heading change during a swoop.

The VX seems to have a steeper glide too. And it dances around even more while openeing (yes I chopped the other day and I never really had openeings I could not deal with on the FX)

that's about it, I really like the VX, I sold my FX, and I kept my Vengeance as a back up.:)
