Frogger 0 #1 October 25, 2002 Hi! I've got a Falcon175 w/ a kill line PC loaded at 1.1 PSF. I'd like to improve its flight with a collapsible or split slider, and would like to be able to pull it down or otherwise be able to let my risers spread to flatten the canopy. Unfortunately, I have standard (not mini) risers, so pulling the slider down over these is not so good. Would I be better off or cheaper getting mini risers or a split slider? Thanks in advance, Frogger
ernokaikkonen 0 #2 October 25, 2002 Don't bother. A Falcon loaded at 1.1 isn't going to fly that much better with either option. If you insist on doing something, a kill-line slider and mini-risers with soft-links would be my suggestion.
Sonic 0 #3 October 25, 2002 Mini risers and SLinks would be best, coupled with a kill-line slider as Erno as already said. Falcon @ 1.1? You might noticed the difference - I did on my Hornet @1.2----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone
riggerrob 643 #4 October 25, 2002 Step 1: install a kill-line on your existing slider. Step 2: install mini risers Step 3: install slinks Step 4: transition to smaller canopy. Step 5: install a kill-line pilotchute. I have a couple of split sliders collecting dust in my locker because I consider them too much of a nuisance to pack on a regular basis. Frogger 0 #5 October 25, 2002 Hi Guys, Thanks for speedy replies! I already have added a KL pilot chute, and it did make a BIG difference. I was hoping I'd get more positive feedback about the split slider since that's $50, but sentiment seems pretty unanimous. New risers are $95, slinks $25 and I guess I could go the cheap route and have velcro put on my 1-piece sail slider. Still more than double. Out of curiosity, what is the hassle with the split slider? When I feel I'm ready, I will definitely downsize, but not before. I'd rather be bored than make a mistake under a canopy I'm not quite ready for. Frogger
PhreeZone 20 #6 October 25, 2002 >Out of curiosity, what is the hassle with the split slider? Before every jump you have to put it back together. Much simpler is just to convert your slider to a collapsible slider with under $15 worth of effort and materials. You can either do the velcro method or have your rigger convert it to a kill line slider. 25 minutes of work and I had mine converted last weekend. It took more time to figure out the right sewing maching setting then it did to mave the draw string. In under an hour you can have yours converted. On a side note you can pull a slider down over links just fine, it just takes a second or two to do. Slinks makes it easier and the mini risers are another ease thing, but not required. Pulling the slider behind your head will help more then all the riser/link tricks in the book.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Sonic 0 #7 October 25, 2002 Don't forget to loosen off the chest strap as well - not much point in pulling the slider down otherwise I feel----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone
bps 0 #8 October 26, 2002 Hi Frogger -- Slightly off-topic, but in answer to your question... When BASE jumping, I jump a 280, loaded at .79 -- I can tell a big difference in the flight characteristics between slider at the links and no slider at all (the same as it being behind your head or taken apart with a split-slider). If you really want to flatten out your wing, the most convenient way to go is mini-risers with small links (or slinks) and a collapsible slider. A split-slider would achieve the same goal, but it also requires reassembly after each jump. Not neccesarily difficult, but slightly more time-consuming than pulling the slider off the risers and recocking it. In the fast-paced world of skydiving, convenience is nice. But keep in mind that either way works well. Blue Skies, Bryan
