Canopy advice

Recommended Posts

Hey All. I am looking at purchasing a rig and have seen a good deal on a complete Vortex rig with a ZP-EXE canopy. I can't find any info out on this canopy although the salesperson told me it was a lot like a Sabre. Anyone know anything and be able to give me some advice. I had been considering a Sabre 2 - how similar is it? Also the rig is £2999.99 for complete package including Cypres. How does this compare to prices in the states and other countries. Would a crafty trip abroad for a rig benefit me much. I have 40 odd jumps and am looking for a 210 or 185 (not sure which yet)... Looking forward to some help.

Vortex and ZP.EXE are South African imports. The price is ok but they are not very popular and tend to lose their value fairly quickly (a point worth considering if you want to sell it secondhand in a year or so and buy something else).
I jump at Nethers as well if you want to hook up for a chat about it.

Might be a good idea to hook up. I was going to ask Robin Durie for some advice but he is in NZ on one of his many travels at the moment. As I would probably only be on this rig for a year or so before a potential downsize the resale value is important. Will let you know the next time I am down at Nethers... Thanks for your help.

3000 pounds is just too much for that package.

In Finland Vortex , 215 ZP.EXE , and decelerator 220 would cost about 2500 euros . (cypres +1000 euros) that is without taxes.

I have never jumped those gear, but I know someone who just bought a vortex and it looks really good...

Yep, I just bought a Heatwave direct from PISA - cost under £400 (custom colours, ready in a month). Email Ned Luker (ned@pisa.co.za), you will get a good deal on a Tempo and Hornet.

Then use the money you saved to buy yourself a better container (something with resale value).

I could have just edited my post, but what kind of post whore would that make me?

Included in that price is a Cypress at about $800.

And the best customer service in the business. I only get one skydiving field trip a year, and this year it's Eloy, but I can't wait to get to Z-hills and meet Heather and the Wings crew.

I'm already Spectre junkie! I'm just downsizing on my second rig to a 150 from a 170. Over 300 jumps, never been spanked or spun up.

Every time I get tempted to go to a 9 cell, somebody jumping something I'm interested in comes off the DZ rubbing their back or neck.

Oh man, tell me about it. My back is still tweaked two months after getting whacked. I've been jumping Spectres since then, and loving the opening. However, I still like how 9-cells fly, and so I think I'm getting one. I'll be *really* paying attention to my packjobs.

The Vortex 11 is an excellent container, the decelerator a good reserve, but I do think that you will be better off with a hornet. The ZP exec is a good alround canopy much like the hornet and I know many people in the UK that are jumping the package. The ZPexec has got a very steep angle of attack and in comparison to the hornet tends to sink in much faster and therefore gives you the impression that the glide is not as good as the hornet's.

I also think that the price is on the steep side, Contact Manny at Icarus in SA. manny@icarus.co.za. I think with the current exchange rate the rig without the cypress will cost you $2000,
