Plucky 0 #1 September 20, 2002 Hi all I've recently bought a second-hand vortex II, but it was owned by an ex-competitor and has a flag embroidered on the shoulder (on the material that covers the shoulder D-ring and reserve riser attachment). I don't mind it too much, but would prefer to get rid of it ... any suggestions? Anything I should be careful of? Thanks a lot
PhreeZone 20 #2 September 20, 2002 Ship it back to have a new mudflap installed or take it to a rigger.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
AndyMan 7 #3 September 20, 2002 Why not just attack the mudflap with a stich-ripper? It's not like the mudflap is of any structural significance. It should be legal too, cause I doubt very much that the embroydery is part of the TSO, nor do I think removing it would be considered a modification to the rig... thoughts? _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. PhreeZone 20 #4 September 20, 2002 Its still going to have the fade mark on the material from where the material under the stitching was never exposed to the sun. If you are going to take the time to rip out a few hundred stitches... might as well do it right.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
SkymonkeyONE 4 #5 September 20, 2002 It would be less hassle to just install a new mudflap, but you can just pick out the stitching to get rid of it until you get a chance to either send the container off or get a local rigger to make you a new flap. Either way, no big deal. Chuck
fasterfaller 0 #6 September 20, 2002 I have seen the aftermath of a stitch picking session and in it is not pretty . I ended up sending it to rws to have the parts replaced .

base283 0 #8 September 21, 2002 Easy guide to removing embroidery if you are reasonably careful. Use a small diameter hand sewing needle (1mm or less) slide it under the stitches but over the material, use a razor blade and shave the threads over the needle using the needle as a guard for the material, repeat as needed, take your time... take care, space

tlshealy 0 #10 September 22, 2002 Another idea depending on the color of the material, you could color the flag with permanent marker to match the color of your mud flap, then it wouldn't be so noticeable. Blue ones Tad
