JFC3 0 #1 August 27, 2002 Is white on a main a bad idea. I don't see it too frequently and was wondering if that was because it fades quicker or anything along those lines. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
weid14 0 #2 August 27, 2002 how can white fade? actually it shows the dirt quicker, not such an issue in eastern US, but the desert areas make the white, an off-white quickly. now, there are some orange canopies I've seen fad very quickly in the sun. nws01 0 #3 August 27, 2002 I have seen quite a few white canopies and they hold up pretty good. One of the Instructors at my current dz has a white FX and he has several hundred jumps on it and it still looks good. Charlie Mullins has several thousand jumps on his FX and it still looks good.http://www.skydivecenter.com/staff/charlie/charlie1.jpg Of course the best is to have a new white VX and jump in when it is snowing like Hans Paulsen here http://www.chutingstar.com/img37.jpg

drenaline 0 #5 August 27, 2002 If you are getting a white canopy, try to put some colors on the ribs (bright color ribs look great on white skin canopies) , that way people wont think its a reserve or you can leave it all white an scare some of the people on the ground that can't see the PC . JFC3 0 #6 August 27, 2002 I'm mixing royal blue and white. I'm doing royal blue rib where the top and bottom skin is white and white ribs where they're royal blue. Silver stablizers. Don't ask me why. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
drenaline 0 #7 August 27, 2002 Oh yeah to add something to the post that said its going to get dirty. If you regularly jump in a DZ that is full of dust and dirt, your white canopy will be your brown canopy in no time. Cool colors! you are right I don't understand the silver stabilizers... zyzko 0 #8 August 27, 2002 White does "fade to grey" with time, and dirt shows up a bit more quickly in white canopy. Although this is more or less true for every color - the brightness fades away slowly. I personally think that white canopy with just a little bit touch of color (in my case blue ribs and black diamonds) looks awfully cool :) -Kari, from Finland, jumping in snowy conditions from december to april... Spy38W 0 #9 August 27, 2002 Nice looking canopy, thats almost exactly what I had decided for my cobalt, except I wanted black stabilizers. I ended up getting a Heatwave with the same colors (minus the black diamonds) I like it a lot.. -- Hook high, flare on time
JFC3 0 #10 August 27, 2002 Cool. I'll go for it. I'm at the ranch and while we have dust it's not that bad. I will be out at Eloy at one point and that's when it'll turn brown. I'll just cut it away and stick it in the washing machine. I'm sure that will be work out fine "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
cobaltdan 0 #11 August 27, 2002 all my personal canopies and many of our demo's are white. if you keep them out of the sunlight they will still look good after 800-1000 jumps. bigest thing i have noticed is certain desert dzs i.e. in az turn white canopies brown from the ground dirt. sincerely, dan<><>Daniel Preston <><> atairaerodynamics.com (sport) atairaerospace.com (military)
Viking 0 #12 August 28, 2002 I would like a Cobalt 170 with Yellow Top and bottom skins and yellow stablizers with black ribs and diamonds. pekkakurtz 0 #13 August 28, 2002 I`ve got a white Spectre, 7 cell that is.(Reserve?)think someone but no it`s a main ;) man. It has around 90 jumps looks and still feels like new, no problem yet.Packing it always at clean spots (inside).Don`t get it sandy and it stays clean. At hot summer sunny days packing a white outside is better than a black, the sun don`t "eat" it so much.So plus and minus mmmmmmhhhhh.
Kirils 1 #14 August 28, 2002 My Stiletto has about 500 jumps. The white areas have turned a dirty gray color. It has about 150 jumps in Los Vegas. The desert really trashed out the white. I'm afraid to wash it for fear of killing whats left of the ZP coating. The white I had on my Heatwave held up real well (200 jumps) I think the South African fabric might be more stable colorwise."Slow down! You are too young to be moving that fast!" Viking 0 #15 August 28, 2002 The PISA ZP isn't coated as healy as the PD stuff is. Maybe that coating attracts and then traps the dirt.I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin
Bruno 0 #16 August 28, 2002 Can someone explain me how the toggles are connected on the control lines in this canopy [http://www.skydivecenter.com/staff/charlie/charlie1.jpg] ?. Sorry but in my area we don't see many different canopy/rig Bruno
