Can someone tell me what a holding area is.

If used in the same context I always taught, it's the area upwind of the target where the jumper should stay and play until reaching an appropriate altitude to begin a landing pattern.

It is an area at the DZ where those jumpers who owe a beer fine, but have not yet paid it, are kept until the :D fine is paid. During Texas summers, this holding area is outdoors in a place without shade or water. This results in the prompt payment of :D fines.

Well, that doesn't make a lot of sense. The holding area should be just outside a liquor store.
