tomblin 0 #1 June 4, 2002 I just became the proud owner of a Sabre 150 which was built in August of '92. I want to put either a larger slider on it or get a pocket sewn on to the current one.The current slider is 19" by 30" (also see the attached picture if ya want).I need to know if I should go with buying a larger slider or getting a pocket sewn on, which is my current inclination right now. I also need to know where I can send the slider to get a pocket sewn on as no one at my current DZ feel's like sewing????

freeflyfree 0 #3 June 4, 2002 I think the guys at www.bigairsportz.com sell pockets for you to install on your slider....give them a call...or your local rigger can make you one too. weid14 0 #4 June 4, 2002 Hey Ben, how about Terry Pike? either that or roll the snot out of the tail and make sure the stows are tight!!
tomblin 0 #5 June 4, 2002 Whenever I do jump Sabre's I roll the tail & get those stow's nice and tight; I'll even re-pack the damn thing myself if it wasn't my own pack job before jumping one. I want the pocket slider as extra "assurance" and with the hopes of getting it to slow down the openings even more.I think both Hook or Terry would be good choices to get it done with and I'll contact them privately...But does anyone have any experience jumping a Sabre or similar with a pocket slider? What should I expect?
weid14 0 #6 June 4, 2002 yup, there are the pocket mods are not a unique thing especially on older sabres. they work pretty well.
skycat 0 #7 June 4, 2002 I had one on my sabre 150 and my best friend has one on her sabre 135 (care of hook). With the pocket on the slider I didn't have to do anything with the nose, just stuff it and put it in the bag, had nice 500-700 ft snivles, my friend with the 135 says she has closer to 800ft snivles and loves it. Just remember when doing hop-n-pops it is going to take longer to open and don't dump low or you could get in trouble.
billvon 3,116 #8 June 4, 2002 The best way to do it is with a larger slider; a pocket works well as a retrofit. I have a '93 Sabre 150 that took a slider from a Sabre 230 _and_ a pocket to slow it down.-bill von
ColdDuck 0 #9 June 4, 2002 I would try a larger slider first and if that does not work, then add pockets to the slider.I have a slider from a Extreme FX on my Sabre 135, and I just recently had pockets put on the slider. And I have had nothing but awesome openings since.
steve1 5 #10 June 4, 2002 Tomblin,One place you might get a larger slider is from PISA. Hornet canopies come with a much larger slider. They are collapsible and have the larger rings. Their web-site is www.icarus.co.za. Tell them what you want and they'll e-mail you back a price. Steve
SkydiveMonkey 0 #11 June 4, 2002 Or if you want to deal with PISA directly it's http://www.PISA.co.za I've seen Sabre's with tandem sliders on to try and calm them down. Let's go play chicken with a planet !!

Oh yea, I learned my lesson with this when I got my modified Safire back from Hook. I went from 400 foot openings to about 800 foot openings. On at least two occasions I found myself looking at my altimeter having it read anywhere from 3000 to 2500 feet, pulling, and not being under a fully opened canopy til 1500 feet. Thanks for all the suggestions so far.... :)
Kirils 1 #13 June 4, 2002 You might consider a larger slider 1st. I jumped a 120 with a large pocketed slider. It worked like a charm until it opened once with the pocket side folded underneath. I slammed so hard I had internal bleeding. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
