AndyMan 7 #1 May 31, 2002 On the weekend I was in square2 looking at helmets. I was struck that every helmet had a standard chin strap, either the straight strap and buckle or the camera chin cup.At all the chicago area DZ's all the vidiots are modifying their brand new helmets to install a cuttaway system. Some of these cuttaway systems are quite elaborate.... some even have handles and three rings. They're really quite impressive. Why aren't the leading manufacturers installing easy, reliable cuttaway systems on camera helmets?_AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
quade 4 #2 May 31, 2002 Andy --A while back, about the time camera flyer Jan Davis went in, Bonehead actively solicited ideas for a camera helmet cutaway system.I'm certain that if somebody were to invent a system that was eligant and foolproof, Bonehead as well as other manufacturers, would start using it. Most of the cutaway systems I've seen on helmets don't really cutaway the helmet -- at best all they do is release the chin strap. While that is a step in the right direction it ususally doesn't address the clamping action of the helmet itself. Take a close look at a BatRak and you'll see what I mean.I love my BatRak and the way it clamps on my head. It makes for rock steady video and I wouldn't change a thing. Being able to cut it away with one pull sure would be nice though.BTW, I don't work for nor am I in any way sponsored by Bonehead. I just like their product.quadehttp://futurecam.com
prost 0 #3 May 31, 2002 While I haven't seen a good solution for the BatRak, I have seen one for the Flat Top Pro. The FTP is a full face so you enter it from the rear. The rear of the helmet is a separate piece that clamps on one side. I have see people modify this clamp so that the pivot pin will pull out and it is attached to a cord. The cord is attached to a stiff fabric handle attached to the chin of the helmet with Velcro. If you pull the handle it will pull the pin out of the clamp releasing the rear of the helmet. The only thing I worry about is the handle snagging on something and you loose your helmet and cameras.William

prost 0 #5 June 1, 2002 I think it would. I like my helmet tight as well. I have a Dbomb and that thing will not move in the least bit and it will only go on my head one wat but I could never get it off with an entanglement. I am looking at getting a Flat Top Pro after seeing some others with them. I liked the way you can get it off your head quickly with the system they devised and the fact that it has a huge surface helps to as I am wanting more and more to mount extra stuff on my head.William
drenaline 0 #6 June 1, 2002 Could a ripcord cable work? the one used at the three rings and skysurf boards. Never seen a skysurf board but from what I can see in videos, it is very tight. Please do correct me if wrong."Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?"drenaline
