gear at airports for other than whites

Recommended Posts

This is a sort of a weird question but I need to know anyway. I've read a lot about how it's not been a problem for people traveling by air to take their rigs as carry on baggage but I need to know if it's been equally easy for people who are of an Indian or Middle Eastern origin.

I can only think that everything and anything is more difficult at an airport for an Indian or Middle Eastern person. It is simply human nature for security to be more suspecting of those of that nationality. Right or wrong, it's bound to be so.

I don't see why not....
Since November I've been flying regulalrly in and out of Houston to and from London, before that (since 9/11) I was in and out of Schiphol / Aberdeen every ten days, with the occasional soujorn into Kazakhstan, via Budapest.
I work in the oil buisiness, and there are many Syrians, 'Arabs', Indians etc travelling the same routes as me.
I have not seen anyone being treated any better or worse than myself because of their skin colours, garb, or other ethnic traits, if you know what I mean. This, I think, is admirable, as one of my biggest hates is racism, and racists. Having lived with terrorism in Europe (I worked in Belfast for a while) for a long time, we appreciate that terrorirists look just like any other 'man on the street'.
Just do a search on the forums for travelling with your rig (I'm sure you already have), and heed the advice given in earlier posts.
Bon voyage......and happy landings.

If it can help,
when I'm a bit tanned (after 1 week at a DZ for example) I've been told by my Pakistani neigbourg that I look like one of his contryman! and I havent had any problems in Europe & Asia since Spetember 11th (havent been in the US with my rig for a while)

Yup ! I agree with you on that and besided under the circumstances I realize that there are chances that I might be subject to some profiling. In normal course that wouldn't bother me all that much. Why I asked the question was just in case someone knows of any case where someone from the mentioned origin actually had a problem explaining about the rig. The profiling issues don't bother me, I just don't want to loose my rig and wanted to know if someone with a bit of tan did actually manage to carry it in with no more of a hassel than everyone else is being subjected too.

Hmm, I'm not that well tanned, my lillywhite northern european complexion doesn't allow it. Plus I've gotta be real careful with my skin in case it burns....:(
You should be okay, make sure the hook knives go in the hold, and have your 'cypres card' handy.

I'm sure this would change if they knew you were a French/Canuk...:D Don't they make you guys were a sweater with a big, red, "F/C" on it. That should be a law or something......:D

"I'm no expert", but I would think that it might have lots to do with the particular people who you run into. Same as anything else. There are people out there in every line of work who are fair and equitable, and there are people who are assholes who like to cause trouble. My friend from Singapore wasn't treated like "the white folks" when he flew into the USA to go to Eloy at Chritstmas...
