raver1 0 #1 May 23, 2002 Hi guys,Im moving this over from the general board, here goes:Ive got 34 jumps under my belt, weigh 68KG's and have reasonable canopy control for my level of experience. I am looking for my first rig and I am pretty excited about it all :) I'm looking for advice (both on and offline) on what to look for and what to avoid when it comes to shopping around for a first rig. What size canopy should I be looking for? What types are good and bad for a low-time jumper? I've talked to a couple of people IRL about these issues and have scored some wildly different opinions, so what is yours?CheersRavs
skybytch 273 #2 May 23, 2002 I'm conservative. For the main I'd suggest something all zp in the 150-170 range - 150 if you consider yourself aggressive, jump a lot, jump at sea level and have stood up all (100%) of your landings under what you are jumping now; 170 if you are more conservative, older, have old injuries to worry about or if you won't be able to stay real current. If you are jumping big canopies now, downsize slowly though - don't go from a 260 to a 150 or a 170 in one jump! As far as brand names, Sabre, Sabre2, Spectre, Triathlon, Hornet, Safire.. all are good first canopies at reasonable wingloadings.pull & flare, lisa"Try not. Do or do not. Snowflake 0 #3 May 23, 2002 DZ.com standard awnser is talk to your instructors and people you jump with and see what size main and reserve you want then start looking for gear in that size.My awnser (keep in mind I'm a low# jumper) your lookin at between 150-190 main and reserve depending on your skill and comfort level. I know thats not exact but without seeing you fly it's really next to impossible to tell you what exact size canopy you need"....and then the canopy opens and you float down to the ground like a multicolored snowflake"JGRat#
