Hunting for a heading?

Recommended Posts

I've seen "hunting" for a heading on every jump I ever did on a Big Air Sportz Lotus and Samurai, Icarus Crossfire and PD Stiletto - in short, every highly loaded eliptical canopy I've jumped.
I've come to appreciate the jumps where it only "hunts" - meaning it will turn back and forth but not give me more then a 45 degree off heading.

I had a 360 + degree opening yesterday. It was pretty fun and totally my fault. I was uneven in the harness and had packed a serious snivel. Most of the time if it does anything more than "hunt" it's bad harness loading. If it turns 45 or more out of the bag immediately and stays that way...it's packing. Just my opinion.

In my less than 10 jumps on my Diablo 170, I wouldn't say that it looks for a heading although it dances around left and right and I'll try to tame it with rear risers before I release the brakes. Another Diablo jumper told me that the dancing is because I was either shifting or my weight wasn't centered in the harness.
