skymama 37 #1 April 24, 2002 I have wide leg pads on my new Vector 3. They are comfortable under the saddle, but when I'm walking around with the rig on, they are a little bulky. Has anyone made the switch from wide to narrow, and what was the difference that you found? AndreaI'm high as a kiteI just mightStop and check you out. skycat 0 #2 April 24, 2002 I actually thought about doing the same thing, I remember my reflex that had narrow leg pads being comfortable walking around on the ground and my new wider ones on my mirage when walking kept rubbing me in well all the right spots. When they were fixing the backpad on my mirage I jumped my reflex a few times and although there was no rubbing on the ground, under canopy they sucked. I ended up deciding to stick with the wider legstraps and thinking thoughts of the skyvan.
rendezvous 0 #3 April 24, 2002 yup ! have the same issue with mine too. Since I don't really walk around with a rig tightly secured to me unless ofcourse while getting ready to jump I deal with it for the comfort that it offers under the canopy. Dumpster 0 #4 April 24, 2002 I jumped a few different rigs as a student- Wider pads suck on the ground but I just leave'em loose- and snug 'em up just before getting on the plane- Wider is better under canopy for sure- I jumped one rig- pulled nice and snug and still had some nice bruises - Partly from being narrow and part from being pretty bagged out as a student rig-
steve1 5 #5 April 24, 2002 I had some narrow leg straps (on an older container)that were down right painful to jump. I cut some long pieces of rigid foam and stuck these under the stap covers. It's now very comfortable. Make sure this foam is very firm and about a 1/2 inch thick. It may not work on some rigs.
kwmontreal 0 #6 April 25, 2002 My last tires old rig had narrow leg pads without any foam. Man are they painfull compaired to my new Mirage rig. Stick with the wide pads and live with the minor discomfort of the wider pads while on the ground. Its really a very small percentage of time when you look at it.Jump SafeKent

skybytch 273 #8 April 25, 2002 My new Infinity has wide leg pads. Wasn't sure about them at first, but after putting 40+ jumps on the rig I really like them. They are a bit bulky in the crotch but it's so worth putting up with that for the extra comfort in the air.pull & flare, lisa[subliminal msg]My website Go Now[/subliminal msg]
riggerrob 643 #9 April 25, 2002 Wide ass = wide leg padsNarrow ass = narrow leg padsIf you have a muscular ass and perfectly harness geometry, you don't need any pads.My theory is that most of your weight presses on the inboard edge of the leg pads, so the answer is to round the inboard edge of the leg pads, like the floating pads that were standard on Talon 2, Telesis 2 and Genera. These rub as you walk to the airplane, but their rounded edges don't pinch. No point in tightening leg straps until just before you board the plane.People with really soft thighs need even more padding, so the solution is to use thicker padding, like the 1/2" thick blue foam used for camping mattresses.
