Dumpster 0 #2 April 9, 2002 I psychoed mine here a couple weeks ago- Opening was fine, it was REALLY easy to shove in the bag, but I had a nice little line twist- Nothing major, it came right out. Don't know if it was my pack job or the technique itself- I may try it again just to see- I was told that psychopacking my accelerate wear on a canopy, but that was one opinion- Maybe some other input out there?Life begins at 14,000' - Shut up and jump! polarbear 1 #3 April 9, 2002 I don't see any reason why you couldn't, but a Spectre should open nice and soft without a Psycho-Pack. If you are having trouble getting it in the bag, the best advice I would give is practice, practice, practice!
Tee 0 #4 April 9, 2002 My girl-friend has psychopacked her Spectre for over 1000 jumps and hasn't had a hard/fast opening yet. It sure gets it packed fast for the next load too. Tee
quade 4 #5 April 9, 2002 QuoteMy girl-friend has psychopacked her Spectre for over 1000 jumps and hasn't had a hard/fast opening yet.A fast opening normally wouldn't be my concern on a Spectre.A slower than normal opening on a Spectre definately would be.Spectres already open so slowly that most people when they first try them out, don't think they're going to open at all.In about 900 jumps on my Spectre I think I've had maybe one or two snappy openings. Everytime it was by a packer that that I had just thrown the canopy at in order to make the next load.I think you can almost do nothing other than just stuff it in the bag and it will come out just about right 99 percent of the time. Not that I pack that way, but it's nice to know that if you have to give it to a packer, it probably won't break your neck.quadehttp://futurecam.com
Dumpster 0 #6 April 9, 2002 Does your girls Spectre have the extension at the top of the canopy where it attaches to the d-bag? I am wondering if the lack of one on mine my have helped cause the line twist-Life begins at 14,000' - Shut up and jump!
Jimbo 0 #7 April 9, 2002 QuoteDoes your girls Spectre have the extension at the top of the canopy where it attaches to the d-bag? I am wondering if the lack of one on mine my have helped cause the line twist-Unlikely. It could have been packing error - you need to be sure to completely remove the self-induced line twist before you make the first stow. I've Psycho packed enough to know that in the beginning this doesn'[t always happen and it might not be obvious.Of course, it could have been bad body position, bad stows, or just bad luck. I wouldn't worry about it.-Jim
Dumpster 0 #8 April 10, 2002 Many possibilities as to why it may have twisted! It was the first time I had psychoed it and figured it was somthing I had done wrong- I probably try it once or twice more to see if i really can do it without problems- but man is it easy and fast! I'd love to be able to speedpack, do a good job and hop right on another load without missing a beat! ( or worrying about a bunch of unflyable crap over my head--) Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!Life begins at 14,000' - Shut up and jump! Kirils 1 #9 April 10, 2002 For what it's worth; I had a conversation last year with John LaBlanc and he said "PD does not advise psycho-packing ANY of its canopies".Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
AggieDave 6 #10 April 10, 2002 PD also said not to roll the nose/tail of a Sabre and about the only way I found to get a Sabre to open nice is to roll the snot out of the nose (no pun intended) and the tail. Started doing that and I started having nothing but very nice openings..."Are they short-shorts?" T.B.
